Swimmers can be seen doing laps in St Mark’s Square while diners eat pizza with their feet in water. Three days of storms and heavy rain have battered large swathes of Italy’s coastline with Venice’s restaurants, shops and famous basilica inundated with water. Around the country 11 people have died from the devastating weather.
