Brunello di Montalcino is the name of a famous wine made in Tuscany, Italy. Brunello di Montalcino is made from the Sangiovese grape, the same grape as Chianti, in the village of Montalcino. So ‘Brunello’ in Brunello di Montalcino refers to the wine itself. Bruno in Italian meaning brown, Brunello literally means the big brown wine. And Montalcino here is the name of the village the wine is produced in so the tuscan village of Montalcino. So how do you go about pronouncing Brunello di Montalcino. First say BROO, then NE, and LO. U in Italian sounds like OO so BROONELLO. If you can pronounce the Italian R say BROONELLO. You do want to emphasize on the ELLO because there is a double L here. So do say brunELLO. Then simply DEE because I in Italian sounds like double E. And MONTACINO. One single C in Italian sounds like CH so do say MONTALCHINO. How not to pronoucne Brunello di Montalcino? Well that would be Bruneelo dye Montalsino. So you can say with an English pronunciation: Brunello di Montalcino. With the typical Italian pronunciation: say Brunello di Montalcino.
