During a recent visit to Umbria (in the heart of Italy) I had the opportunity to attend an Olive Oil tasting. That’s right – not wine, Olive Oil!

Leading up to the tasting, I had no idea that there were olive oil tastings, or that there was a very set way to go about tasting it. I also had very little understanding that there are lots of different grades of olive oil and that certain types of olive oil should be paired with certain types of foods.

You’ll notice that I ended up coughing. The olive oil was delicious and had a great taste (this was done with the strongest oil they had us sample). You would expect it to be silk smooth, but interestingly there was actually a slight burn (not unpleasant) after aerating the olive oil…thus the cough.

Enjoy! You can learn more about the trip on my blog – If you found this useful, would love your feedback and please consider subscribing!
