Food hygiene and quality control measures are necessary to ensure the safety of food from production to consumers. Food can become contaminated at any point during slaughtering or harvesting, processing, storage, distribution, transportation and preparation. Lack of adequate food
hygiene can lead to foodborne diseases and in extreme circumstances death of the consumer. Nevertheless, it is essential to ensure the manufacturing and distribution of food goods. The European Food Safety Authority is strictly monitoring the situation of the COVID-19 outbreak. Currently there is no evidence showing that food is likely to be the route of transmission of the
coronavirus. This debate will give stakeholders the opportunity to discuss what is needed from policy and from the private sector, from SMEs to large global companies, to create the right conditions to promote the production of food commodities under highest hygienic standards in times of the corona pandemic to ensure consumer protection.
Food hygiene, protection of employees and customers, and cost control are among the outlined priorities of the national response to COVID-19. It is therefore a great honour to invite you to join this webinar as Member of the European Parliament representing Italy as well as Member of the IMCO
Committee and the European Food Forum.
