San Gimignano is an Italian hill town in Tuscany. It is known as the Town of Fine Towers. 13 of the original 72 towers still remain standing. Torre Grossa is the tallest tower in San Gimignano and is one of the best known towers in Tuscany. It was built in 1310 and stands 177′ tall. You’ll have great views of the city as well as the surrounding towns and vineyards from the top.
As in most tourist towns in Italy, you’ll find many shops and cafes here as well as throngs of tourists. Therefore, it is wise to arrive early to find parking and to beat the crowds.
Gelateria Dondoli has won many awards and is a must try. Don’t be afraid of the line. It moves pretty fast. Also, don’t miss lunch at Caffe Giardino. It is just outside the walls of the city and offers good food as well as a window with some of the best views of Tuscany.
