Unexpectantly Homeschooling – Everything Italian!
Today is the Feast of St. Joseph. For some reason that I don’t understand St. Joseph’s feast day to Italy is like St. Patrick’s Day to Ireland. But Italy is suffering so right now. So in homage to that brilliant and beautiful culture we should be Italian today!
Eat Italian food! – We are having pizza for lunch and spaghetti for dinner! You might have kids go through books (with your help maybe) and find anything with an Italian connection.
Roman:
Use an old sheet to make togas; have chariot races in the driveway or stage gladiatorial fights with stuffed animals.
Make a Roman arch out of blocks of cheese!
Make a shield and sword out of a big cardboard box
Make a volcano (Vesuvius) out of playdough or paper or what have you, put a cup in the middle and do the old baking soda and vinegar trick. Learn about Pompeii!
An idea I forgot to mention in my rushed video: Roman numerals – check out these videos
Renaissance:
Print out coloring pages of figures from the Sistine Chapel ceiling. (and it was Michaelangelo!)
Opera!
Right now, Italians are singing to each other from their balconies to combat the isolation of quarantine. You might find videos of that. Also videos of Luciano Pavarotti or Andrea Boccelli singing.
