Inmates in San Vittore prison in central Milan continued their protest over the measures to contain the coronavirus, on Monday. Footage shows a dozen of people on the jail’s rooftop as they hold a painted sheet with the word “Induito ” (“Pardon” in Italian). Smoke can also be seen billowing from the building, where cells were reportedly set on fire.
The action comes as a government’s emergency decree on Sunday imposed restrictions on direct contacts between inmates and their families.
Similar actions were taking place in several Italian prisons since Sunday, with six deaths reported in a prison in Modena.
