Calistoga is located about 75 miles north of San Francisco, in the north end of Napa Valley. Full-bodied Cabernets, fruity Merlots, and buttery Chardonnays are just a few of the dozens of varietal wines presented by the 400-plus wineries. Interesting vineyards and wineries to visit are:
1. Castello di Amorosa (Castle of Love) – a 13th century Tuscan castle and winery features award winning wines, food and wine pairing. Try 2013 IL Barone and 2018 La Fantasia.
2. Sterling Vineyards – Perched 300 feet above the historic town of Calistoga, Sterling Vineyards offers brilliant wines and stunning panoramic views of Napa Valley.
3. Beringer Vineyards – Known as “the oldest continuously operating winery in the Napa Valley”, and is listed under both the National Register of Historical Places and as a California Historical Landmark.
4. Robert Mondavi Winery – Try Mondavi signature wine, Fumé Blanc. A winery with religious background, incorporates sculptures of saints and elements of California’s missions, along with rows of olive trees throughout the estate reminiscent of Italy.
