Ruptly is live from Milan’s Piazza del Duomo on Monday, February 24, as Coronavirus confirmed cases skyrocket in Italy, marking the biggest outbreak outside of Asia.

Italy’s confirmed cases surged from three on Friday morning to more than 152 by Sunday. The spike is attributed to a rise in infections in the country’s north. There are more than 100 cases in the region of Lombardy, the capital of which is the city of Milan.

World famous touristic destination, the Duomo gothic cathedral has been closed to the public.

Officials have yet to track down the ‘patient zero’ of the virus in the country.

As of Sunday, the number of deaths from the novel coronavirus has risen to 2,465 worldwide. There are over 79,930 cases globally, and 20 deaths outside mainland China.
