Venice is one of the most visited cities in the world, but surprisingly few people could name a single traditional Venetian dish. Between the tourist menus and familiar Italian staples, it’s easy to visit without ever really experiencing what the local food is actually like.

So for my first trip to Venice, Eva set out to change that.

In this video, she introduces me to some of the traditional foods of Venice, from everyday local specialties to dishes you’re unlikely to find on a typical tourist menu. Let’s just say that the food of Venice isn’t exactly what I expected to find…

If you’ve ever wondered what people in Venice actually eat, or what makes Venetian food unique, this is a look at the dishes that define the city beyond the usual clichés.

  1. When you see Venezia from the station toward the water it's an amazing view that can't be described unless you see it.

  2. @Harper, there is no gondola taxi but there is a sort of a gondola ferry that you can take to cross the Grand Canal in several points of the city. (Although it is actually a gondolin if I remember correctly – slightly different from a gondola).

  3. Happy Sunday to my favorite YouTube Couple! 🥰It was great to see you both.😊 Thanks for the food review and tour of Venice. Sending love ❤️ and blessings from the USA. 🇺🇸

  4. Baccalà mantecato is probably the most venetian food there is ill be disappointed if it doesn’t appear in the video.

Edit: you guys never disappoint keep up the good work and come visit Ravenna to try traditional piadina romagnola!
Ps: in many regions of Italy we call it baccalà, only Sicily and Calabria call it stoccafisso from what i know;)

  5. Risi e bisi (a pea risotto) is what comes to mind to me; that and chocolates. Now let's see what you're going to show us!

  6. Recipes soon? Slit the finger open(AGAIN😅😂) So off work a week. Any cooking recipes with easy prep as im temporarily banned from anything sharp 😂
Loving the advice as venice is on the cards soon

  7. When my wife and I visited Venice in 2004 I offered some gondoliers who were not busy, just sitting around, 60 Euro for a 1/2 hour. They refused. 80 was the least they would take. We did not go on a gondola ride.

  8. Harper, listen to your wife. She knows these things!😂😂😂😂😅

  9. and @Eva, it is true that sarde in saor should be eaten at least after one day but they taste much, much better if you eat them some three days after making them.

  10. I spent a summer in Venice as a student. There was a lot of Neapolitan food for tourists everywhere. I had to ask around to find traditional cuisine. The University made great meals, as schools go, but I wasn't sure weather they were representative of the local cuisine. I did find a few places.

BTW never put a toe in a gandola. The closest I came was a tragetto, very cheap. Or, for that matter, ate any of those sandwiches. They are often sitting out in the sun, unrefrigerated and with too much mayonaise. To be fair, I never sought them out in a better restaurant.
