Italian Soffritto is one of the most important flavor bases of many Italian dishes, among which the famous lasagna! In this video we show how to prepare the original Italian soffritto, step by step.

Making soffritto is not difficult but there are a few tips you need to be aware else it will end up spoiling your dish.

A few notes on these Italian words: ‘trito’, ‘battuto’, ‘soffritto’ are sometimes used Interchangeably depending on the Italian region you are in.
But I think it’s appropriate to say that ‘trito’ indicates the chopped raw vegetables (from the Italian verb ‘tritare’ = to chop); ‘battuto’ is synomous of trito, and soffritto is what the trito (or battuto) becomes after cooking.
