I’ve reviewed a number of products from Hero and have found that while the taste is pretty great, the impact on my blood glucose varies considerably from one product to the next. In this video, I try out one of their products that I’ve had a lot of review requests for – their pasta.

  1. Hey Steve – have you ever reviewed the Kaizen rice or pasta? I tried searching but didn't see anything from you (my trusted source of keto & taste info – I know you'll be honest). Thanks!

  2. Oh dear! 😲 That glucose response, and at a cost of $10/box!? Guess I won’t be going there….Thank you for trying & sharing your own results, Steve. Much appreciated. 😊

  3. Great review. I can eat their breads (including the white) and the tortillas without impact, but I'd been curious about the noodles. Given your very high response, there's no way I'm even trying it, especially not at that price point. It's actually even costlier where I live. Close to $12.

Love the reviews and the useful information you provide. Thanks for doing these

  4. I've noticed a lot of Hero products being promoted on YT. For me it's best to avoid all these substitutes of things I gave up for my health.

  5. Thanks for the review, Steve, even though I knew I would not be purchasing after reading the wheat ingredients.

  6. I know that chickpea pasta has more carbs, but they say it's lower glycemic… I would love to see what that does to your glucose 🙂 It's actually not bad tasting… Also, I love that you do these because I will tell you I used some choc zero syrup the other day and I WAS SHOCKED to say the least that it shot my blood glucose up from 71 to 147 .. That's just crazy 🙁 It's too bad because I haven't had syrup in 2 years and it was REALLY good 🙁

  7. I have to wonder, is Hero just reselling pasta made by another company? There are numerous wheat-based lower-carb pasta products out there with similar macros and sold under different brands: Carba-Nada, Proto Pasta, Carbe Diem, Ciao Carb, etc.

  8. That's a huge spike. If that spike is similar to regular pasta, then definitely save the money by skipping Hero brand. I am looking forward to how you do with Pete's.
Been several months since I have had any pasta as my aim is to keep total carbs very low. At some point, I would like to have an occasional pasta dinner, and learning how other people respond to various brands is helpful (even if I might possibly experience differently).
I need to get in habit of checking my BG just i know for sure how various foods impact me.

  9. Thanks for the review Steve. And thanks for not drinking the Kool-Aid about resistant starch

  10. Steven have you reviewed Royo Bread products? I found them at a store near me then I ordered online. I'm very happy with the bagels, I love the challah rolls the best, and I really enjoyed the cinnamon rolls and chocolate rolls. The macros are on their website. They are in Brooklyn NY and in some Whole Foods.

  11. As for side effects, did you experience any type of crash or sleepiness after eating the Hero pasta?

  12. A fun experiment would be to have something with a good amount (1-2 tablespoons) of allulose to see if it would blunt the spike.
