The church of Holy Saviour is located in Castellina in Chianti. The building was of medieval age but during the last world war it was destroyed and subsequently rebuilt in neo-Romanesque style by the Sienese architect Menotti Lucattelli. Inside, a detached fresco with Madonna and Child by the painter of the early fifteenth century called Maestro di Signa; Also worthy of note is a beautiful polychrome wooden statue of San Barnaba, by a sculptor, perhaps from Florence, from the mid-fifteenth century. Furthermore, in the building there would also be, inside a display case, the body of Saint Fausto martyr donated by a rich Sienese family to the church. From that moment San Fausto became protector of Chianti and the devotees invoked his help in moments of drought or during the harvest.
