Our apartment caught fire in our Da Nang condo building, so we escaped to Hue, Vietnam โ€” and it turned into the best accidental trip we’ve ever taken. A week we didn’t plan, in a city we barely knew, exploring the walking streets, the Perfume River, imperial monuments, and cold Huda beer at DMZ Bar. This is our raw, honest first impressions of Hue.

๐ŸŒ Stay connected when it matters โ€” Shayna got the call about our fire because we had unlimited data with our Holafly eSIM. Use code THEDUFRESNES to save on standard, monthly plans โ†’ https://holafly.sjv.io/WOO0XX

  2. The man burning things in front of his house wasn't doing what you thought @ 9' 01 What he did was a form of burning joss paper, paper items such as money, houses, cars, and other goods – associated with the Vietnamese tradition of ancestor worship. People believe that after death, the soul continues to exist in a spiritual "afterlife" world. When these items are burned they are thought to be "sent" to that world for the deceased to use. This practice is a way for descendants to show filial piety and remembrance of their ancestors. It is also believed that burning joss paper in front of the house represents a transitional space between the inside and the outside, making it easier to "transfer" the offerings.
Glad that you are all safe!
