#olympics champion #alysaliu joins The Rolling Stone Interview to reflect on the unlikely path of her career. In a candid conversation with Rolling Stone senior writer Alex Morris, Liu looks back on rocketing to the top of figure skating as a teenager before shocking the sport by walking away at 16 – only to return on her own terms. She opens up about the pressures that shaped her early rise, the freedom she found outside the rink, and what it means to finally take control of her story.

  1. Alysa's response was very mature. Her answer was very honest. I have Asian friends, in which their culture is very rigorous. Their parents a lot from their children. They will even cry in front of me when they didn't meet their expectation.

  2. It's none of our business what their relationship is. If Alyssa or her dad want to talk about it; that's their choice. She's sharing the details about her experience. Don't read into it. If someone has a similar relationship with their parent maybe they can find comfort knowing others experience strained relationships.

  3. I’m sure her Father was well intentioned, but probably a little too pushy, as we parents can get sometimes. Ultimately this was her decision, her life and it was right of her to take the reins.

  4. Kids and parents go through phases like this when the kids are finding themselves. It’s just part of their journey. She didn’t know who she was outside of skating when she quit. She has found herself and is trying to shed any and all restraints from those painful formative years.

  5. Nah this is dead ass how woman are. Even your own daughter it seems .. of course you don't owe us anything we never expected anything after all the good we've done for you, maybe just be nice and not mean in return that'd be great ?

  6. Why are people mad at the interviewer , nothing about her question was disrespectful she’s just doing her job. People are so fragile these days

  7. This made me not like her your father is the reason you are successful if she can’t see that I hope she tears every ligament in her knee

  8. Wow that’s a spoiled way of answering that. Your dad spent half a million to a million on her dream. He deserves to be happy for her. It was daddy’s money that helped her get to where she is. You should never forget those who helped you along the way to pursuing your dreams.

  9. Completely get her! Her life decisions, especially all her wins(or not) under her own rules and not her fathers, are only hers. Like he doesnt deserve an opinion. After what he put her through and after how he reacted to her quitting before.

  10. Not a great interviewer with these type of questions and creating misleading headlines such as this. Very unprofessional interviewer and unkind to others. But Alysa did excellent with her answers.

  11. I don't get it! "He was never there"!? What does that mean? I thought he was there during her practices and performances. He literally invested tons of money for her to do what she loves and pursue her passion. All the photos of her and her dad smiling and hugging each other! I don't get it. I thought her father was her manager and original coach!. There sounds like a lot of animosity there which doesn't appear that way in the photos. She seems very guarded bordering on annoyed whenever she is asked certain questions such as the IVF method by which she was born, but that is her right. Idk why she is allowing the media to interview her. She doesn't have to. They always ask invasive questions about your personal life. She doesn't have to subject herself to that

  12. That's the worst thing somebody that raised you could possibly hear his day you don't know you don't care and that you are mad whether he cared or not that's straight Stone Cold killer Instinct type of attitude blows my mind and I hope you change your mind about your opinion little lady that man brought you up in this world as a little nobody you should be thankful be happy be proud and love that man forever and for everything he has done for you!!! He most definitely deserves to be happy over anything and everything that you've achieved whether it's a decision or a gold medal back up and smell the fresh air before you get too old because I promise you you didn't do this by yourself!!! Don't be that person please don't be that one carry your people that care for you on your shoulders as far as you can bring them and remember life is all about building a big team that way you have plenty of people looking out after you don't create enemies out of nonsense if I'm may!!! ONE LOVE!!!

  13. Umm why this one sounds so bad from her other interview? They basically asked the same questions.

    But her answer is different.
The other video, yes she admitted her father was happy. Still she called him a great father.

But this one, as if she was mad or something. What had changed? 🙄

  14. This quitting and then coming back is ridiculous non-sense. Just call it a break. Be happy your dad gave you this opportunity.

  15. You were mad when I quit so you shouldnt be happy when I go back?? How does that make sense? And she says, he shouldn't have an opinion at all. Hm… She sounds more and more like a spoiled brat tbh.

  16. This is kinda uncomfy. Why does it seems like theres some kind of resentment. I guess her father was too strict before?
