For years, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano struggled to keep up with its more famous neighbors.
Brunello grabbed the spotlight. Chianti Classico evolved. And Montepulciano quietly faded into the background.

Avignonesi has been one of the producers leading that comeback.
Since taking over the estate in 2009, the winery has shifted fully to organic and biodynamic farming, focusing entirely on 100% Sangiovese and a purer, more expressive style of winemaking.
The result is a completely different kind of Montepulciano.
The 2022 Vino Nobile shows remarkable refinement, especially for a warm vintage. Instead of heaviness, the wine delivers freshness, elegance, and balance, with a texture that almost leans toward Pinot Noir.
Cherry, red fruit, and subtle spice unfold with a soft, polished tannin structure, giving the wine both immediate drinkability and surprising depth.
This is not the rustic Montepulciano of the past.
It is clean, vibrant, and incredibly well made.
Critics took notice.
95 points from James Suckling, a huge score for a wine in this category.
And then there is the price.
$21.98.
For a biodynamic, 100% Sangiovese from Tuscany with this level of quality, that is an easy decision.
