This was one of the most surprising wines of 2025 for me.
Unlike the norm in the area, Marianna and Raffaele from @pietraventosa are aiming to redefine Primitivo from Gioia del Colle.
Specifically, they are moving away from
jammy, high-alcohol, commercial Primitivo and moving towards structured, mineral, terroir-driven Primitivo.
Their goal is to give Primitivo of Gioia del Colle a “fair and deserved place” in Italian wine, and damn do they make a strong case for it.

Nice video. I have yet to try primitivo. In your experience, would this leaner primitivo from Italy compare more to the Napa or other new world red Zinfandels?
