In this lesson, you’ll discover why using the verb “avere” when talking about food and drinks is usually wrong in Italian. You’ll learn the specific verbs Italians actually use when eating or drinking, understand the key difference between possession and consumption, and find out the one situation where “avere” with food is actually correct.

How to use la and il thanks
Posso dire mangerรฒ una pizza stasera?
Is vorrei also good?
I have actually never used avere with food or beverages
As a Canadian whose national identity sometimes seems to be as polite, non forceful people, I tend to use Posso avere quite a lot when asking for things as sometimes 'Prendo' feels too forceful, though I do use it. I also find Posso avere makes sense for me when asking for things that are uncertain to be available as in "Posso avere una prenotazione…"
Grazie, cara insegnante, non lo sapevo!
Non ho mai usato "avere" per riferirmi mangiare o bere. In inglese diciamo "I have a cold", o "I have a headache". "Avere" e' coretto per questi esempi?
vorrei una pizza, voglio l'aqua per favore? Grazie!
I was wondering the same thing.
english should swap โhaveโ for the actual verb. It makes more sense.
il titolo dev'essere "Why Italian's don't say 'I'll have a pizza'"
