Zeppole di San Giuseppe

San Giuseppe is on the 19th, so Mama got started a little early this year and made her zeppole 🤍 She makes them every single year to celebrate, and it honestly wouldn’t feel like San Giuseppe without them.

Light, golden, filled with homemade custard, topped with a cherry, and finished with powdered sugar… so simple and so good.

Mama has been making these for years, and every time she does, it feels like a little piece of home ✨

Instructions:
1. Zeppole Preparation:
* In a mixer, ada flour.
* Bring water and oil to a boil, then add to tlour. Mix well.
* Gradually incorporate eggs one at a time, mixing on medium speed for 2-3 minutes.
* Transfer the mixture to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip.
* Pipe dough onto parchment-lined trays to form zeppole shapes.
* Bake at 350°F until golden. Allow to cOOl.
2. Custard Filling:
* Whisk egg yolks and sugar at high speed until creamy and fluffy.
* Add flour one tablespoon at a time, then mix in lemon juice and milk.
* Strain the mixture into a pot and cook over a double boiler on medium-high heat, stirring until silky and thick.
* Allow custard to cool, then pipe into cooled zeppole.
3. Assembly:
* Cut zeppole in half and pipe in the custard.
* Top with a maraschino cherry and dust with powdered sugar.
