I’ve always dreamed about living in Italy.
The food. The wine. The culture. The history. It’s a country that keeps pulling me back.
Last summer Jillian and I visited Modena, a beautiful city in northern Italy that doesn’t get nearly the attention of places like Rome, Venice, or Florence. And honestly… it might be one of the most livable places we’ve experienced in Italy.
In this video I share a short part of our travel experience in Modena and talk about why places like this make you stop and think:
Could we actually live here?
But after spending time in Italy and reflecting on our life abroad, we still find ourselves choosing Bucerías, Mexico.
I’ll explain why.
If you enjoy this format, let me know in the comments. We travel quite a bit, and I’m thinking about turning this into a series where we ask the question:
Could we live here?

We travel quite a bit, and I’m thinking about turning this into a series where we ask one simple question:
Could we live here?
So I’m curious…
If you had to choose — where would you live?
🇮🇹 Italy or 🇲🇽 Mexico?
And why?
Amici italiani:
Se doveste scegliere, dove vivreste?
Italia o Messico?

We live in Italy. We did live in Mexico for 15years and it's gotten very expensive now far more than people think. And it's gotten very unsafe now. We love Italy living cheaper and safer. Never going back.
New to the channel; Is that your horse?!! I have friends that live in PV and as I am planning to retire this year I am hoping to spend a lot more time there . Im currently learning Spanish and loving it . Cheers from Vancouver BC
Thanks for the video. I like your concept. Ultimately, I think it is probably hard to really say if you could live somewhere without spending at least a year there. I've never lived a year in either Mexico or Italy. My associated ignorance aside, I think I would rather live in Mexico vs. Italy, despite Italy's superior infrastructure and safety. I tend to be more concerned about financial impacts then any other "where to retire" considerations, so my concern for most of Europe is the long-term tax burden delta between it and other potential retirement destinations. A quick, somewhat off-topic question for you Joel. If someone wanted to spend 2-4 weeks visiting Bucerias during the May – September off-season months, which month would you recommend and why?
