Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni says Italy is coordinating closely with France, Germany, and the United Kingdom to prevent further escalation in the Middle East crisis.
Speaking in Rome, Meloni said discussions with Emmanuel Macron, Friedrich Merz, and Keir Starmer focused on strengthening diplomatic coordination and maintaining international stability.
Meloni also announced the deployment of an Italian naval frigate to Cyprus as a preventive measure to help safeguard European Union borders. She stressed that Italy is not part of the conflict and aims to help reduce tensions while supporting possible negotiations.
The Italian government is also monitoring the potential impact of the crisis on energy prices, fuel costs, and food prices, and may activate “flexible excise duties” to ease gasoline costs if prices rise significantly.
