This video we start planting our olive trees! From abandoned land to productive and beautiful olive grove – that’s the plan at least 🌱
I’ll walk you through the planting process and share the reasoning behind the different olive varieties we’re planting, how we’re spacing them and our plans for the future of the garden. You’ll also get some glimpses into our life in the beautiful hills of Piemonte as we enjoy a sunset barbecue with a well deserved glass of wine.
Over the coming months, we’ll be planting more fruit trees and vegetables, improving the soil, and slowly building a productive garden in the middle of the Italian countryside, surrounded by vineyards and rolling hills.
This channel documents our journey of restoring an old Italian farmhouse while creating a living garden, growing our own food, and exploring our love of food and wine along the way.
If you’re interested in starting a garden, growing tomatoes from seed, composting, homesteading, or life in rural Italy — subscribe and follow the transformation.

Not alive trees.
Dylan this has been such an interesting and picturesque video. Thank you and Nikky for taking us along on this new adventure in your life
The chives should regrow, just mark where they are so you don't cut them back again. If you can get a bunch now in spring and move them into a better location, they should spread by self-seeding around late summer when you see the snapes growing to flowers.
Your pile of branches, especially the ones that aren't alive make good pea structures.
Brambles should always be removed, they somehow root from the smallest branches. I'm talking about the ones you cut away.
If you really persist most plants die off if they can't get sunlight.
Hi Dylan. Sundays I can't wait for you and Nikki . love the videos . love seeing your journey. Impressive and my you tube favorites. Love you both. I'm from Pa in America .
I call the onion kind you found, kajp and , maybe you can look it up. To me chives is something else…..but I do not know if you are interested. Sorry, not trying to correct you just saying😊 very nice episode..
I'm looking forward to more videos. So glad I stumbled upon Nikky's original vlog. Between the 2 it's everything I binge-watch on YouTube! Great content Dylan!
Beautiful video.
Lots of information, good to see you using your mulch from the property. Nice clean up of the garden area. I enjoy seeing the transformation.
I don’t see any grape leaves?
Hotdogs with wine! That's just what I love to eat (not to mention that it's a perfect match for my culinary ability).
How special! After a productive day planting some olive trees, you are enjoying a South African wine, as I am whilst watching this video!!😂❤ Greetings from Johannesburg, South Africa!!!
Ben je een fan van bbq. En heb je nog tips die je ook kunt bbqen. Want een burger en worstjes kennen we nu wel. En wat kan je bij vis aanraden qua wijn.
I'm so excited to see your progress in the garden. Olive trees and grapes are fantastic for Italy soil! I love everything you both are doing. I live in Maine Northern USA. ❤
Garden area is looking good! I enjoyed your video.
Hola Dylan. Another great video, & congratulations on planting your first Olive trees. Your land is already looking cared for. Finishing your day with a meal cooked on the fire, lovely glass of wine, perfect. Love to you both. Patricia ❤
Just start clipping the Olive tree the old ones until you might find any green life into it that's what I do every year to all of my plants got to trim it back I can take a stick and stick it in the ground and make it grow that's if it's got any life in it😂❤
That old dead growth is drawing the sap out of the new ones if you would cut off all the old ones that would really take off with all the new ones that you see that is the reason why I say every year I do it to all of mine and then you also get a bigger crop less disease and bugs
Also it'd be awesome to know just how old that old Olive tree is history I love it
Tree branch cutters snippers
Do you have any idea that all of those old branches and all of that that you don't have any idea what to do with that you could mulch that and put it in with soil that makes some of the best organic soil or also if you burn them those Ash is some of the best fertilizer that you can use on plants and if you had any rabbits or chickens to mix with and furminate with all of that you would have some of the best organic soil instead of the chemical pesticides that only kills anything and I did say anything you put it in your mouth there you go
Gave video! Respect, wat een klus maar mooie plek voor de olijfbomen. 😊
Hello Dylan, great progress and a lovely video. As a South African, it's wonderful to see that you are drinking one of ours. My favourite winery here is Allesveloren, it's less than an hour from where I live and the wines are exquisite. It's also wonderful to see you guys plant your first trees, olives that you will one day be harvesting and producing your very own oil from. I'm looking forward to seeing the garden being developed. Greetings from the Swartland. 🙏❤️
You might want to consider keeping one or two hives of bees to help with the pollination and, of course, for the yummy honey 🍯 😋
Well done Dylan! I am impressed with you horticulture/agriculture knowledge. As well as your sommelier expertise! You are an interesting young man and we are throughly enjoying your videos. Best wishes on your travels and be safe. We are looking forward to your next video.
Im an American born Italian. Im so proud of what you both are doing! Dylan! I hope all those people on your sisters site see how much an asset you are!! I know a few bashed you. People just never see the back story! I commend you young man! Hugs!
Ciao Dylan tanti auguri per il canale
Wow…..South African wine🙏……my country ❤
Sure is taking shape Dylan…. great job to you both 🎉❤
LOVE YOU TWO !!!!!!!!
So nice to see you guys enjoying a South African wine – we are very proud of our wines ☺☺ Look forward to your next video
Great to see you getting a start on the vegetable garden and olive grove, you did well with getting a good bit of clearance done in that area, not easy with the corded strimmer and secateurs that you were using. Here's hoping you get a blade soon to make life easier for further clearance jobs 🙂 I am looking forward to seeing the garden take shape and following your progress with it, Dylan. Thank you for sharing your journey.
Will you be protecting these in the manner that Isis and Bertus did?
Dylan, watching you remove these brambles, I wonder if you are familiar with (black berries) black raspberries, as I understand they are often referred to as brambles in other cultures? If you are not check them out. They are divine as a cobbler, jam, preserves, or fresh. I have seen them as wine as well. Perhaps you would want to leave a few in an area that you can maintain for experimentation.
Nice to see the olive trees being planted. Enjoyed the description of the varieties and the one that ensures good pollination! Hoping you will find at least a few old vines that will fruit. Nice to see the slow reclamation of the property!
Thank you Dylan, things are moving along and I love watching the journey. See you next time 🌿
Olive trees are so rewarding . Tough trees.. will the dear leave them alone?
I have wild garlic that comes up in my California central coast garden in the winter. Even with the humidity it’s dies back in the summer. Enjoying your videos. 🧡🌻
Interesting way of holding the bottle of wine 🍷 any reason why? Enjoy Netherlands 😊
Hi Dillon great job! Its all coming together nicely, you are lucky with the weather we have had nothing but rain here in the U.K., we could do with the sunshine 👍🏻👌🏻👋🏻
Bush cutting in shorts is brave! LOL Job well done, though! I follow both you and Nikky, and I'm definitely very impressed by the work you've both done, and continue to do, on your property. Bravo!
I really enjoyed your knowledge of plants and the BBQ dinner. Tell us about yourself and the work you do in the Netherlands. Do you plan on living in both countries for long periods or some short and the other long? Grazie, from California USA I’m half Italian American and half Puritan migration descended that includes some Duch ancestry. The Island in the Center of the World (I believe that’s the correct title) is about the Dutch influence in New Amsterdam that has continued as a steam of influence. I enjoyed that book so much. The Dutch were more tolerant than the English settlers who were more backward and rigid. ❤
I use olive oil for all my cooking .
Really enjoyed this video. I love all the information and knowledge you shared.
There’s usually local community olive presses that press your olives for you. I think that they just take a percentage of the oil, or some other form of payment. You just need to make sure that you have the requisite oil containers.
