  1. Italy has over 300 native vitis vinifera varieties. I simply dont understand why would anyone plant Syrah…

  2. You mentioned California for Syrah – I got ahold of the Lagier Meredith Syrah 2018 (Mt. Veeder) and will lay it down for another year or even two!

I have tried a Tuscan Syrah, from a higher altitude plot I believe. I brought Thai Pad Kaprao with beef in and this Syrah felt natural.

  3. This winter we had some wine friends over for dinner with steak au poivre and had three bottles of Syrah/Shiraz, poured blind. Guigal La Landonne, Torbreck Laird, and Darioush Napa Shiraz. The Laird was the big winner. In fairness, my guests and I skew toward New World palates. The Darioush did surprisingly well, given that it was substantially cheaper than the other two. All three bottles were fully consumed.

We were going to go with Grange for the Aussie entry, but I found out one of my guests had actually worked as a distributor for Penfolds and therefore had consumed a fair amount of Grange.
