If you’re researching Florence wine tours, you’ll quickly discover that many Tuscany day trips involve large buses visiting crowded wineries.

During our trip to Italy, we wanted something different — a small-group Florence wine tour that focused on authentic vineyards, great wine, and a relaxed pace in the countryside.

In this video we share the Chianti Rufina wine tour we chose with Tuscan Trails, which included two wineries, wine tastings, a traditional Tuscan lunch, and transportation from Florence with a sommelier guide.

You’ll see exactly what the day looks like — including drive times, winery visits, wine tastings, and lunch at a family-run restaurant — so you can decide if this type of Florence wine tour is right for your Italy itinerary.

Since I travel with celiac disease, I also share what the experience was like from a gluten-free traveler’s perspective, including the gluten-free gnocchi served at lunch and how wineries handled dietary needs during tastings.

  1. If you're planning a trip to Florence, would you take a small group wine tour like this into the Tuscan countryside — or would you rather rent a car and explore wineries on your own? 🍷

This Chianti Rufina tour ended up being one of our favorite days in Italy. The small group size, the castle winery, and the long Tuscan lunch made it feel much more relaxed than the big bus tours we kept seeing.

I'd love to hear what you're planning for your Italy trip!
