ChaCha and I set off early from Santa Maria Novella to join the incredible Walk About Tours—and this ended up being one of our favorite experiences in Italy 🇮🇹❤️
Our journey began with a scenic drive to Siena, a true medieval gem of Tuscany. We enjoyed a private guided walking tour through its enchanting streets, learning about the world’s oldest surviving bank, Monte dei Paschi di Siena, and Siena’s historic role along the Via Francigena 🏦✨
We explored Siena’s famous contrade, the 17 historic districts that come alive during the legendary Palio di Siena 🐎🔥—held in the breathtaking Piazza del Campo, one of the most beautiful piazzas in the world.
Next, we stepped inside Siena’s crown jewel, the Duomo di Siena ⛪✨—famous for its dramatic black-and-white marble interior and its extraordinary inlaid marble floor, featuring works by Michelangelo and Donatello. Absolutely unforgettable.
🍷 Our day continued through Tuscany’s rolling wine country to Fattoria Poggio Alloro, where we enjoyed an organic wine tasting and a traditional Tuscan lunch with homemade pasta, cured meats, local cheeses, and biscotti—plus plenty of wine. Yes, we shipped bottles home 😍
We then explored San Gimignano, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the “Manhattan of Tuscany” 🏙️🏰. Wandering through Piazza della Cisterna, visiting the Collegiata, and taking in panoramic views from La Rocca was pure magic. Gelato stop included, of course 🍨😉
Our final stop was Pisa, where we visited the iconic Piazza dei Miracoli and admired the legendary Leaning Tower of Pisa 🗼✨ with views stretching to the Arno River.
After returning to Florence, we stumbled upon an unexpected gem—the San Lorenzo Market 🛍️🍝
