Confession Friday is back with another awkward naturist moment from our early days visiting clothing-optional resorts. This one happened at a naturist resort in Italy during one of our first trips. There was a communal dinner that evening, and we assumed everyone would stay nude like during the day at the pool. Even though it was getting a bit chilly, we showed up to dinner completely naked. Plot twist…everyone else was fully clothed.

If you’ve ever been confused about naturist etiquette or made assumptions about when to be nude at clothing-optional resorts, you’re not alone. Beginners often struggle with the unwritten rules about dining, evening activities, and weather-appropriate choices at naturist communities. Most resorts are flexible about clothing during meals and cooler evenings, but we learned that lesson the hard way.

  1. I've done many activities naked, but have never managed to attend a dinner party naked. Mind you that's only because I've never been invited to a dinner party where I, and other guests, can attend clothes-free. Something for the bucket list methinks.

  2. Nudists and naturists can look so funny in cloths, that may be put on for safety driving home from a week long festival event living clothes-free for a week or more.

Private events with small cliques may have social expectations, not present (or if they are, not always legitimate) at commercial or larger resorts with non-discrimination legal obligations.

Some nudists use sexuality-denial as if a mandatory element of their dealing with personal or cult dogma indoctrination. That can clash badly when others are activists working for broad civil or human rights criteria overdue for protections, or who have holistic sex-positive ideological values the "nude isn't lewd" and "nudity has nothing to do with sex" panderers sometimes try to impose on others. Especially among groups that include swinger or poly subsets, with their own awkward dynamics.

I've sometimes worn a shirt or even sweatshirt on a cold morning, and been asked by a non-naturist visitor why that and no pants. Simple answer, upper body heat loss is higher and can cause illness or sore muscles. And it's a cool morning.

Funny scenario, New Years Eve party at a nudist resort, with an outdoor large hot tub, and fire circle 50 feet away. Some of us were going between the fire circle and hot tub nude, other than sandals, and forming an inner circle while rotating as if on a spit. Others in winter jackets mingled around an outer circle. Everyone in that group was fine with that, and merely found the dynamic amusing. There was snow and ice on the ground there, and it was COLD. (FWIW, I was one of those in the inner circle around the fire, alternately with hot tub.)

I find it idiotic when some long term nudist resort members talk about the importance of no cloths ever "rules", and they seem to not quite get it that midweek when they're away, sometimes there is facility maintenance and people welding or using construction machinery where PPE is essential.

  3. We were once in a naturist resort in Germany, so decided on the Friday to see what's happening in the communal hall. We heard some festivities inside, so went in. As it was cool my wife was appropriate dressed, me not.
It ended being a local scouts party with lots of kids running around.
We were however welcomed in, but it was pretty awkward 😅

  4. I've been to one where it was like only a third of the people who were naked, so much less awkward but at first it felt like we were so few. The resort like many other had a lot of older guests and, well, they get cold more easily it seems. We were comfortable as it wasn't chilly.

  5. We cried the day Club Orient was destroyed and we're still crying…🇯🇲💙🖤💯
