Italy in February might be the most underrated time to visit Europe due to fewer crowds, cozy winter vibes, beautiful seasonal atmosphere, and in our case, stumbling into Carnival in Venice. If you’ve been dreaming about a winter trip to Italy or wondering whether Italy in the off season is worth it, this vlog is for you!

Italian cafes and restaurants mentioned in this video:
📍RoYal Art Cafe Roma (right next to the Colosseum!)
📍PaStation Roma Campo Marzio (they offer eating times with unlimited pasta)
📍Oppio Caffe Roma (also next to the Colosseum)
📍Adesso Osteria Moderna Roma (delicious upscale dinner spot)
📍Hotel Saturnia Venezia (amazing hotel breakfast and kind staff)
📍Gelateria Canonica Venezia (the best gelato in Venice, in my opinion anyway lol)
📍Dal Moro’s Venezia (the best pasta in Venice, also according to my opinion haha)

My boyfriend and I packed an incredible amount into this Italy winter travel vlog and I’m so excited to finally share every moment with you. We covered three completely different sides of Italy: the dramatic alpine mountains of the Dolomites, the ancient and lively streets of Rome, and the magical canals of Venice during Carnival season.

The Dolomites & Cortina d’Ampezzo: The Dolomites are one of the most breathtaking mountain ranges in the world. We even stopped in Cortina d’Ampezzo, the stunning alpine town hosting venues for the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics.

Rome in Winter: Cafés, Food, the Colosseum & the Fiat Tour: From the mountains we headed to Rome, and the contrast could not have been more perfect. Rome in February is honestly a dream, the weather is mild, the tourist crowds are minimal, and the city is completely alive with locals going about their daily lives. We had cappuccinos and croissants at a little café directly across the street from the Colosseum.

We also did a vintage Fiat tour of Rome which was honestly one of the highlights of the entire trip and something I don’t think enough people talk about when it comes to things to do in Rome. You get driven around to all the major landmarks like the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, and more.

We also spent half a day at the Vatican, and I share some honest and nuanced thoughts about that experience in the vlog, including a practical heads up about the very long walk to the Sistine Chapel.

Venice During Carnival and a Netflix Bridgerton Surprise: And then there was Venice. Venice during Carnival is something I genuinely don’t have the words for. The moment you step off the train you’re greeted with a canal view, and from there the whole city just feels like a living, breathing theatrical performance. People in elaborate 18th century gowns and painted masks casually walking across bridges, sitting in cafés, stepping into water taxis, it’s the most magical atmosphere I’ve ever experienced, and as a former professional ballerina I do not say that lightly.

We explored the canals, ate incredible fresh seafood, and put together our own DIY Carnival costumes with masks we picked up in the city. And then, completely by chance , we discovered that a massive Netflix Bridgerton Ball was happening in the plaza right near our hotel. Actors in gorgeous Regency era costumes were handing out branded Carnival masks and inviting everyone to the ball, and the evening itself was just breathtaking.

We ended our Venice trip in the most perfectly Venice way possible: a boat taxi directly from our hotel, along the canal, straight to the airport. Our hotel even packed us a little breakfast to go. I genuinely felt like I was in a movie.

And then Spain happened: Our connecting flight home went through Spain, and obviously we could not just pass through Spain without turning it into a little adventure. The Spain vlog is coming very soon so make sure you’re subscribed so you don’t miss it!

If you’re planning a trip to Italy, whether you’re researching things to do in Rome, where to stay in Venice, whether to visit during Carnival, or what the Dolomites are like in winter, I hope this vlog gives you all the inspiration and practical insight you need.
