From my personal experience trying to impress someone usually backfires. It either goes unnoticed or you come off as desperate.
Krug is what I always have available for my guests at holiday parties I host.
If I had the bucks like Musk, I would be sharing DRC Monopole, and Montrachet, with my favorite wine YouTubers like you Agnese! ❤❤❤
I learned very young how to be polite (Rich Scarry The Polite Elephant) so I always keep an American wine for guests!). They are always impressed, but little do they know about my Burgundy collection. Either way though, I am not into name brands. Nice video, nice theme.
Oh yes, the linden flower. Eastern Europe's fave cold and cough remedy! And it's the one that for a change doesn't taste foul.
Never had either a vin jaune or the palomino, but now i want try them just based on your description and how you enjoyed them!
I would love to impress my wine knowledgeable friends with Krug, but even they are more apt to get a bubbly like the Bollinger you opened. For bubbly for myself I like champagne Collet Art Deco made by a coop from grapes sourced exclusively from premier and grand cru vineyards available here for $40 USD. More often a domestic sparkler for ~$20. Dinner wines to impress my friends are usually something from western Europe or the USA aged to maturity. Wines I drink myself just to enjoy are any well made wine from any varietal usually in a $20 to $30 price range, of which there are plenty to enjoy and explore. BTW you look adorable in that black hat you were wearing at the beginning of this video. 🥰
If you come over to my house, I am not going to try to impress you with the wine……but you will be impressed.
Thank you for highlighting Vin Jaune 🙂 I would also choose a wine of a similar style, like dry Tokaji Szamorodni from a good producer like Samuel Tinon.
Agnese Gintere .. please give feedback on this brand, Many Thanks!!
Since this episode touches champagne .., how about Gosset ($45/55 in USA)?
I’ve opened Gosset from Epernay.
Founded in 1584 in Aÿ by Pierre Gosset, Champagne Gosset is the oldest wine house in Champagne, originally producing still red wines before transitioning to sparkling. Renowned for a style defined by high acidity and the absence of malolactic fermentation, Gosset Champagnes are characterized by freshness, tension, and a distinct, antique bottle shape.
I have had many wines during my lifetime, but I don't feel I'm knowledgeable enough about wine to impress someone other than sharing my personal favorites.
Here in America if I'm casualy bringing a bottle of Champagne to someone's house that doesn't know anything about wine I'm bringing Moet or Vueve Clicquot. They simply won't recognize anything else and I don't want to have to explain why other entry Champagnes are objectively better. Sure they'll recognize Dom and Cristal but I'm sure as shit not spending that type of money for people who don't know. If I'm at home and people happen to come over and the need for Champagne arises then I'm opening any bottle I want to drink with no explanation. And I won't explain it either, I don't want to be that guy. However if they ask, then at that point I sink my fangs in to convert them to wine enthusiast status. 😄
Two champagnes in the morning certainly impresses me!
When I want to impress a friend who loves wine I would open a Chateauneuf du Pape (M. Chapoutier- Barbe RAC). Or a Tignanello perhaps.
For myself I would open a nice Barolo. Maybe a Rivetto, now that I found a wine shop nearby.
For impressing a wine professional I might grab a white Hermitage.
Vin Jaune is still on my list to buy.
Great video, again.
I’m a big fan of unfortified palomino. I’ll need to look for that one. Pretty much anything in my cellar I’d open anytime and enjoy for a solo drink. I love finding unique or unusual wines for our tastings and get togethers with my wine friends, like a varietal orangetraube from one winemaker in Austria or Dorona di Venezia from Venice or something really old like a PX from the turn of the nineteenth century. Im a fan of opening what you’d like, not just saving the “special” bottles for a special occasion.
Loved this one. One of my favorites and that says something. I particularly enjoy wines for the Jura and will try to hunt down that Tissot! And thank you again for sharing your knowledge with us ❤.
Totally interested in la Escribana now😂😂 Definitely writing it down like I did for Rivesaltes and Virè Clessè Levroutee 😂
Thanks Agnes🙌
Great idea for a video. Have not seen that on any other noticeable chanel. We definately need part two of that!
How many wine professionals does it take to open a bottle of Krug?
None! I drank it yesterday, ha
Pete
But is it okay if I just pour Krug for myself?
I don't find explaining the story of a wine anything like having to explain a joke – which definitely is a sign of failure. I serve people who visit me great wines, and they often ask to know more about the wine. I'm happy to oblige, though I wouldn't mention the price unless they really want to know. If I wanted to impress someone with the sheer deliciousness of the wine I'd serve them Catena's White Bones Chardonnay for a white and Guigal's Chateau D'Ampuis Cote-Rotie for a red.
I'd be very impressed if you gave me wines #3 or #4 (I've had this), not so much #1 or #2. By far, even though I am not a wine professional, the most impressed I could be is if you show me a grape or region I've never tried that is uniquely different and very enjoyable. I really appreciate something affordable and obtainable that I wouldn't try – this is truly a gift as I can buy a case myself in the future. As far as impressing my boss especially, or also a date, I really want to avoid anything that seems expensive. How could I ever ask my boss for a raise again after serving him a bottle of Krug? I've been divorced once over money and don't want another gold-digger. As I watch this, I am drinking a <$20 Sancerre, which to me is impressive because in the USA it is really hard to buy affordable white wine that isn't crap.
To answer your last question I watched this video while drinking a 2014 Termes (the baby brother of Numanthia from Toro) and 2011 Il Poggione Brunello. I got excited when you pulled out the Escribana because I was recently sold this bottle in a wine shop in Barcelona. The seller was so excited about it. Great to see you love it too. I need to find a time to open it. With wine professionals or geeks I love to open aged wines from well known or lesser known regions. There’s a mallorcan white dessert wine by Humboldt from 1997 that always gets approval. And a 1974 Perelada from Emporda. Neither are expensive but they’re fun, rare, complex, and interesting. I also like opening wines from Lebanon and Slovenia as they have great quality but are harder to find. Krug is of course beautiful but aged Corpinnat is fun and less known. I even got a French nationalist who swears by champagne to admit it was good 😁
Why would you use wine to impress ? Wine is to be enjoyed between people. I don't get your thinking at all
Here’s a thought: how about we don’t think about “impressing” people with wine. Let’s stop turning wine into drinkable shibboleths
For me, I'm about to pour some Greywacke sauvignon blanc. Cheers! Enjoying your content.
If you're pouring Krug for a casual wine drinker, I'm coming over every time! 😊
I enjoyed a CHEAP glass of wine as I watched and enjoyed your video so very much. When I was making wine I found out just how many " friends" I had! We are not sommeliers or wine masters but it IS fun to share wines with friends! Thanks for your wonderful helpful hints! 🙂
LOVE Krug!!!! I have a few others that cost less that I like as well…..Eric Rodez for example.
My go-to for impressing a casual wine drinker is a Cru Beaujolais like Morgon or Fleurie! It’s a wine that even beginner wine drinkers will find to be delicious
