Freestyle skier Eileen Gu says she has nothing left to prove going into the 2026 Winter Olympics as she already feels accomplished. “I’m here because I want to be and there’s something so freeing about that,” Gu told Reuters ahead of the Games.

She still need to prove she still have 2 passports 🤣
ALYSA LIU is the best
Granted, she is really talented. But look at Mikaela Shiffrin. the lady has been around for a minute, and as many wins and medals she has, I do not think I have ever heard her say what Eileen is saying right now.
Traitor. Treason. 🐀
She's truly a great narcissist
Shame on her for selling out her country and competing for China. I’m sure the $6M didn’t hurt.
Eileen 💪❤😚👑
😅
Sell out
She is amazing. Honest, humble, thankful, strong!
Wow humble much
Yeah all you saying she's a traitor. I'll bet you. You would trade flag for money all day.
People saying “I have nothing to proof” definitely have something to proof (if only to themselves)
She's the best at everything. Except for having a likable personality.
Well said! You rock!
You lost. Get over it and accept your silver with honour
She’s really scary. Why doesn’t accept defeat? She is showing no humbleness at all, but arrogance and narcissism
Well said Eileen. You're a tremendous freeskier and a well rounded individual. Best wishes.
Eww she needs to be humbled. She seems defensive
So self centered, egoistic and full of herself. She became so defensive recently and that when you know from now it's can only go down hill. Pride comes before the fall
Stay humble
IF she had any morals she should give the money back that she gets from the Chinese Government…but she won't…
Love you Gu, Three gold and three sliver, first in history and winning adoration of over 1.4B Chinese people, more than four times larger than the US population😍😍😍😍😍
So humble! Complete opposite of Alysa Liu
She's not well, just way too much going on… She has no peace… She needs Jesus not money or medals
Know what it means to be a perfectionst
…but somehow it feels being really exhausting beeing Eileen.
The Olympic Nationality Double Standard
Throughout Olympic history, athletes have been competing for countries other than their own.
In regard to Eileen Gu, the backlash is often fueled by geopolitical tensions and underlying racism. Zoe Atkin, who won the bronze in the same event, is also a Malaysian-American (of Chinese-Malaysian descent) who raced for Great Britain, yet there was no controversy.
The trend of athletes competing for countries other than their birth nation—often called "nationality switching"—was a major theme of the 2026 Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics.
While the debate often focuses on American-born athletes, this is a global phenomenon driven by heritage, funding, or the desire to bypass deep talent pools in countries like the U.S. or Norway.
Prominent U.S.-Born Athletes Representing Other Nations
Eileen Gu (Gu Ailing)
* Birthplace: San Francisco, California
* Team: China
* 2026 Results: Gold (Halfpipe), Silver (Slopestyle), Silver (Big Air).
* Context: Now the most decorated freestyle skier in Olympic history (6 total medals). Her choice continues to spark significant political debate in the U.S.
Zoe Atkin
* Birthplace: Newton, Massachusetts
* Team: Great Britain
* 2026 Results: Bronze (Halfpipe).
* Context: Unlike Gu, Atkin openly maintains dual citizenship and has represented Team GB her entire career due to her British father.
Gus Kenworthy
* Birthplace: Chelmsford, UK (Raised in Colorado, USA)
* Team: Great Britain
* Context: After winning silver for the U.S. in 2014, he returned to represent his birth country, Great Britain, in the Men's Halfpipe.
Sarah Schleper
* Birthplace: Glenwood Springs, Colorado
* Team: Mexico
* Context: At 46, she competed in her 7th Olympic Games. After a long career with Team USA, she switched to Mexico (her husband's home country) to continue competing at an elite level.
International Nationality Switches in 2026
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved several high-profile changes of nationality specifically for the 2026 Games:
Lucas Pinheiro Braathen
* Original Country: Norway
* New Team: Brazil
* Context: One of the world's best alpine skiers, Braathen retired briefly in 2024 following a dispute with the Norwegian federation. He returned in 2026 to race for Brazil, his mother's home country.
Campbell Wright
* Original Country: New Zealand
* New Team: United States
* Context: A rare "reverse" switch. Wright was a rising star for New Zealand but moved to Team USA after the 2022-23 season for better training infrastructure.
Kaillie Humphries
* Original Country: Canada
* New Team: United States
* 2026 Result: Bronze (Two-woman bobsled).
* Context: A former Canadian gold medalist who famously switched to Team USA citing a toxic environment in the Canadian program.
Athletes Representing "Small" Winter Nations
Many athletes born in major snow-sport hubs (U.S., France, Canada) compete for nations with less infrastructure to ensure they qualify for the Games:
* Richardson Viano: Born in Haiti (raised in France), represented Haiti in Alpine Skiing.
* Samuel Ikpefan: Born in France, represented Nigeria in Cross-Country Skiing.
* Mialitiana Clerc: Born in Madagascar (raised in France), represented Madagascar in Alpine Skiing.
* Benjamin Lynch: Born in Canada, represented Ireland in Alpine Skiing.

Narcissist. You can tell.
Well, did you train in China or USA?
I don't want my daughters to hear this. I thought she wanted to be a role model. This doesn't sound like one 🤢🤮
There is a difference between being arrogant n being truthful to oneself.
She is very self-aware n truthful to herself. What she is repeating is, I suspect, an answer or statement to herself.
Sports have a short lifespan n she probably wants to say she can probably do more other things in life now after proofing to herself. ❤❤❤
The price of freedom I guess. What a disgraceful individual.
Doesn't she have a manager? They are doing a terrible job advising her to appear more likable and humble (unless this is who she really is). She's attractive, smart, athletic. She has that halo effect working for her (until she doesn't) Very off-putting personality which can amplify any perceived flaw as well.
It is her life. She can choose to play for whoever she likes. I wish everyone had her grace in face of such undeserved hostility. I am glad she is representing the People's Republic of China.
Well said and well done girl❤
She should be a Chinese citizen not US Citizen, shame on you.
Need to prove that you are a decent citizen of US.
Beautiful, talented, and confident women trigger the weak for sure.
I think she’s wonderful.
Props to her for having worked so hard on her American accent. I’ve never heard anyone from China master the American accent as good as a native speaker 👏
You sold yourself to the CCP!
Such a shame!
She is so disgustingly full of herself…the self-aggrandizement is disturbing
Blah Blah Blah. 😂
Sponsors just put on dark sunglasses and kind of duct down low in their seat and quietly drove off after rolling up their darkened windows. She would be wise to hire a publicist specializing in damage control.
The bragging is well deserved, she has nothing to prove
The love for men shining through warms my heart 🙏
It's crazy how all these people only relate a good personality to being overly humble. They're totally ignoring the fact that inspiring the young generation is more important to her than any medals.
Let's go Eileen! 💯🔥😎🎉
There are plenty of American raised, or born (which is very different) Olympic athletes that compete for other countries.
I've researched and there are only three including Gu that have won gold medals. Gu(the most gold medals)
Gu is in it for herself and the money 🤑 she ain't doin it for the Chinese children(but that's a cute respond from the kid)
Because she knows she can without a doubt compete for her home country, she should be the next Olympics. My strong opinion
