In January I visited the Petra Winery during a trip to Tuscany. I was very impressed to visit this exciting and striking winery set in the Val de Cornia. The region lies to the south of Maremma and the winery sits on a hillside looking out towards the coast and to the island of Elba in the distance – it is a beautiful setting and well worth a visit. The striking, architect-designed winery fits harmoniously into its surrounding landscape. This eye-catching structure combines form and function.
I very much enjoyed the wines I tasted here, they are all labelled as IGT Toscana. The range starts with the Hebo, a blend of Sangiovese with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The second wine tasted was a lively, elegant Merlot called Querceagobbe and the range is completed by a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot that is simply called Petra.
