🇮🇹 Riomaggiore – The Jewel of the Cinque Terre
Our walking journey takes place in Riomaggiore, the southernmost village of the legendary Cinque Terre. Nestled between steep vineyards and the deep blue Ligurian Sea, this colorful fishing village is a dream destination for romantics, photographers, and anyone seeking authentic Italian coastal beauty.
Colorful tower houses stack dramatically down the hillside toward the small harbor, where locals still pull in fresh catches each morning. The main street, Via Colombo, winds through the village center, lined with trattorias serving fresh pesto, focaccia, and locally caught seafood. Above, terraced vineyards produce the famous Sciacchetrà wine, cultivated for centuries on these impossible slopes.
Riomaggiore is also the starting point of the famous Via dell’Amore (Lover’s Lane), a romantic cliffside path connecting to Manarola. From here, you can explore all five villages by train, boat, or the legendary coastal hiking trails that wind through olive groves and offer breathtaking sea views at every turn.
Even without hiking the trails, simply wandering through Riomaggiore’s narrow caruggi (alleyways), climbing its stone staircases, and watching the sunset paint the village in golden light is an experience you’ll carry with you forever. The sound of waves crashing against ancient rocks, the scent of salt air mixed with Italian cooking, and the vibrant colors at every turn make Riomaggiore a place that feels like a living painting.
