Ventimiglia’s is a Metro Detroit institution — and today I finally stopped in to see if their legendary Italian sub lives up to the hype.

📍 Ventimiglia Italian Foods – Sterling Heights, Michigan

In this episode of Detroit Food Review, I ordered:
🥖 The famous Italian Sub on a hard roll with their house-made hot pepper mix
🥪 A turkey sub on a soft roll with hot peppers
🍲 A bowl of their homemade chicken soup
🥗 And a side of their fresh, homemade pasta salad

Ventimiglia’s has been serving the Sterling Heights community for decades, known for authentic Italian meats, cheeses, fresh bread, and classic deli sides. But the big question is… is this the best Italian sandwich in Metro Detroit?

I break down the flavor, the bread, the meat quality, the balance of that hot pepper spread, and give you my honest rating.

If you’re looking for the best subs in Sterling Heights, the best Italian deli in Metro Detroit, or a classic Italian sandwich done right — this is one you don’t want to miss.

  1. My mans, if it's sandwiches you crave, Mudgies in Corktown is the place to be.
It's nationally acclaimed, and you might see celebrities there.
They make a ton of their own ingredients, including their pimento cheese spread – Dirty South knows all about that pimento cheese.
Pros – Delicious, bread is amazing. Potions are delightful.
    Cons – Lots of hipsters

  2. They are one of the the best! With good to premium sliced meats fresh ingredients and the price is less than most places, and one of the only places you can get spumoni (Italian ice cream) I personally like the softer bread 🍞 .😊 I know it's about a 30-minute no traffic drive for you so thanks for making the effort! I moved from Livonia 2 Sterling heights 5 years ago and got the tip on this place and others out here.

  3. Man that looks so good. The market looked great too. I will definitely visit when I'm in the area.

  4. Great video Scott as always. Glad you enjoyed it, I've been there a handful of times and my go to has been the turkey sub. Take care and enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  5. I spent 33 years at the GM Tech Center getting an Italian…hot & hard once a week. It is the bomb-diddly!!!

  6. Another great review! It's my side of town, that place is awesome for Italian foods. Fun fact: Jets pizza was created in Sterling Hts in 83' right near where you are on Dodge park. If you get a chance, check out (Holiday Pizza) on Van Dyke between Utica rd and 18 1/2 on east side of rd. Been in business at least since the early 70's, great pizza and sticks. Used to be at Riverland plaza on Van Dyke and Riverland dr. along with Apollo Coney Island a great coney Island. I've lived in this area for 55 years, been going to both places forever.

  7. I grew up in Sterling Heights, but I've never been to this place. Went to school with one of the kids tho.

  8. Ventimiglia's is amazing. Everything is great. That sub you got is what I get too, especially with the hot peppers. Absolutely recommend their side dishes too. Every single one I have tried I liked. BTW, I used to work a few miles from Gonella's and those have always been my favorite subs. Now I don't get down that way at all so I am SO happy I found Ventimiglia's. Its still a few miles away but close enough that I get there as often as possible.

  9. Grew up here subs are iconic. Grape season they sell grapes buy the case in the parking lot. Moved away yet I still come back for the subs

  10. Their subs are the bomb!! My regular lunch run for years. You need to check out lipuma's coney island in Rochester Mi. Best chili dogs ever!!!!!

  11. This spot is really good!! I tried it randomly when I was going to My Pizza Place for their Detroit style pizza with cheese under the crust! Maybe too much for some people but I loveee cheese

  12. I love your content, so I don't want to come across as a jerk. But "vegetation" is what you call the collection of plants in an area like trees, bushes, grass, weeds, vines, etc. It's different from "vegetables". Love your videos!

  13. Ventimiglias Italian Sub is the best I've had. I'm local to Sterling Heights. The store has a motherlode of Italian goodies too. Salads, sides, bread, pasta sauce (homemade), etc. Is 9.2 your highest rating for Italian Subs?. For me it would be higher still but I haven't been to the west side or downriver.

  14. Sterling Heights is not DETROIT. Metro Area YES. But not DETROIT. If you want the best Sub in Detroit go to The Original Gonella's 295 Oakwood, Detroit, MI 48217. A Good Food opportunity that is available to maybe host an event would be Ford Field Dearborn in Dearborn, MI!

  15. Thanks, Scott! While I agree Ventimiglia's has one of the best subs around, a newcomer has entered the race just a few miles away on Garfield, "Gigi's Italian To Go" ( 43245 Garfield Rd, Clinton Township, MI 48038). From my sampling, at those of others, this place should be on your list of places to go. Looking forward to what you think about their subs, etc.

  16. Wow those sandwiches are loaded! Can you personalize them or are they a standard recipe? Everything looks delicious! Thanks for another great review!

  17. Finally!!!! Yes great review! BTW I've lived next door to that place for 20 years I've always used the G.

  18. The fact that you got both a hard and a soft roll just shows how good of a food review channel you are. You have to try both. Great fucking review
