Master the art of opening sparkling wine safely and elegantly like a true sommelier. In this tutorial, we demonstrate the professional sommelier approved method for opening sparkling wines like Champagne, Prosecco, and Cava without the dangerous “pop.”
While it sounds celebratory, popping a cork releases carbonation too quickly and can be dangerous. A bottle of sparkling wine contains roughly 70-90 psi—three times the pressure of a car tire. Learning to open the bottle safely takes practice, care, and is so important!

Love my bubbles. Other than champagne (or champagne grapes), do you have any favorites? For me it’s sparkling Chenin.
