There is an interesting history, behind how some Italian dishes, made it to the Philippines and how Filipinos adapted these dishes into their own.

  1. Iโ€™m Filipino and cooked spaghetti half my life and never did I use milk, or condensed milk at that.

  2. Very well made short on such an iconic meal from my country! Although I've personally never seen anyone use Condensed Milk in it.

  3. While some use condensed milk in their Filipino Spaghetti, it's not as common and it's a recent "invention". What makes it sweet is primarily the banana ketchup, as it is the base ingredient of the sauce. Some may add sugar, but usually its just the ketchup.

Additional thing to what you said, although the banana ketchup may have been an extender back in the day, today Filipino spag is primarily banana ketchup and many dont even add a little tomato, tomato sauce, or tomato paste (I really hate that kind of spaghetti). And some would actually refuse to eat it if it has those things as even a slightly sour / tangy spaghetti is weird to them.
