Everyone knows Alexander of Macedon translated the Septuagint from Hebrew into Greek for the library of Alexandria, Egypt along with all the texts of the then known world. As a modern Greek I see it as important to know when to ease off the name monopolization. This issue was politically resolved with North Macedonia regardless of dissatisfaction on both sides, time to be civilized about this. Holding onto animosity over this doesn't benefit either of us. We were all Christians struggling under the ruthless Ottomans and none of us capitulated and abandoned Christianity for Islam unlike our Albanian counterparts. I'm a lone Greek appreciative of our North Macedonian neighbors including the endurance they showed under Communism. Europe is a Greek word; should all of Europe speak modern Greek or abandon the name? By now the symbols belong to everyone, the name dispute has been resolved. I prefer the qualifier North before Macedonia, but if it doesn't get mentioned, how much of a shit can you really give? Our buttons can't be this easily pushed like we're lab monkeys. Powers that ought not be are sensationalizing the issue and manipulating us towards overblown animosity against both our interests. Bulgaria, N. Macedonia, and Greece united against the Banksters! We need to hang out.

Just a small clarification about the term “Macedonian food” you used in the video:
The dishes you tried are traditional cuisine from the Republic of SCOPJE (VARDASKA((around Skopje, Ohrid, etc.). This cuisine has a rich blend of Slavic, Ottoman, Balkan, Mediterranean and local influences and is delicious and unique in its own right.
However, historically and culturally, the term “Macedonian cuisine” originally refers to the Greek region of Macedonia — the northern part of Greece — with its own culinary traditions that extend back through Greek history.
So in strict historical and cultural terms:
🥘 The food you ate is best described is / Skopje & Balkan cuisine — very real, traditional, and enjoyed by people across North Macedonia today.
📜 The ancient and regional Greek Macedonian cuisine is another distinct tradition with its own history and dishes connected to the Greek part of Macedonia.
Both are valid and delicious food cultures! The difference is mainly about geography and historical naming, not about the quality of the dishes itself.

Btw, fellow Greek people, don't get mad at Max. He is not obligated to know the history of the region. He has been always very positive about Greece. I'm sure he doesn't want to insult you or anybody else. He is going to a country where people refer to each other as Macedonians. He is a tourist there. We can call them anyway we want but that's what they've told him. Even if he knows (he doesn't), he cannot disrespect them. Just enjoy the food, guys.

Mark, as someone who follows you and I understand food and drink (I've been doing it my whole life) and plus I come from Serbia (Macedonia's first neighbor) I have to tell you the something. The biggest mistake is that you pronounced "Raki". Raki is a white Turkish drink that is mixed with ice and water and tastes bad (so that my friends from Turkey don't mind, but they don't like it that much either) and "RAKIJA" is a traditional Serbian drink, let me say Balkan, and the taste and smell and everything is incomparable with "Raki". Please don't mix it up. And as for "ajvar", in 90 percent of cases, eggplant is a must, in addition to peppers and tomatoes. With “ćevapi” YOU must eat “KAJMAK” and onion.. And Mark, if you haven't eaten Macedonian lamb and home-made tomatoes (Javor Mrzenci is the best place in the Balkans), it's like you haven't even been to Macedonia! I wish you all the best and keep going! I'm waiting for you to come to Serbia 👌
I can see evil 😈 comments from Greeks and Bulgarian here. First of all the real Greece is the very southern tip of the Balkan Peninsula. The south part of Macedonia which is under Greek occupation was never inhabited by Greek people. Just look at the demographics from the Ottoman Empire about Solun where Kemal attaturk was born and see how many Greek people lived . So stupid and jealous are some nations towards another nation and country.

It is unbelievable to see more than 200 people dislike this video! For what? Because Max is calling the people Macedonian and the country Macedonia? You guys are sick with names! First, you started claiming that several foods with Turkish names are originally Greek, and later the lands! If those lands were part of Greece, you would be the first to call that region Macedonia and the people living there Macedonians.

Thanks to the Ottoman Empire, you can be in virtually any Balkan country, and the food tour is basically a variation of a Turkish food tour. And it's totally OK because the food is amazing. 😀
