In this episode of Wine Mastery, John and John dive into an Italian white wine made from a little-known grape variety that most wine drinkers will never have heard of.
With confusing grape names, overlapping synonyms, and some unexpected tasting notes, this bottle promises intrigue before the cork is even pulled.
But does curiosity translate into quality in the glass?
The wine pours a brassy yellow colour with hints of green and gold, immediately sparking discussion around its appearance.
On the nose, the wine divides opinion, revealing floral aromas, a distinct nuttiness, and unexpected notes that range from biscuity and dough-like to panettone, citrus, and even a slightly artificial lemon character.
As always, the conversation explores how difficult it can be to isolate aromas and how suggestion plays a role in tasting.
On the palate, expectations shift.
While the nuttiness carries through from the nose, both presenters agree the wine feels thin and lacking in structure.
With very little acidity and a short, flabby finish, the wine struggles to maintain interest beyond the first sip. For a £6.99 price point, comparisons are inevitably made with other budget wines that have delivered far more character and balance in past tastings.
The discussion turns to value for money, drinkability, and whether this is a wine either presenter would buy again or serve to guests.
While pleasant enough for a single glass, it’s not considered a wine to savour or seek out.
As always, personal taste is emphasised — what disappoints one palate may suit another perfectly.
Food pairings offer some redemption, with suggestions including strong farmhouse cheddar to add depth, or garlic prawns with rock salt to refresh the palate.
The episode concludes with final scores, honest reflections, and an invitation for viewers to share their own thoughts if they’ve tried the wine themselves.

Another fun episode. Thank you. I live in California so lean towards California wines so many options. I’ve recently discovered red Cabernet blends and like a few. I spend about $14 US. Is this a rip off when a wine is a blend? If you came to my house to dinner, would you feel dread when you saw the bottle? ☮️♥️
