Mushroom beds from the ground up in the woods. We begin by clearing a path, pre-soaking straw, and layering straw and wood chips to create a healthy substrate for mushroom growth. We then evenly spread sawdust spawn throughout the bed, followed by additional layers of straw and wood chips before watering everything in thoroughly.
These beds are tucked under a tree canopy to maintain moisture and provide the shaded conditions mushrooms prefer. Weโre growing multiple varieties, including Wine Cap, Italian Oyster, Pink Oyster, and Nameko mushrooms, and now the waiting begins as the mycelium establishes and prepares to fruit.
This is part of our ongoing forest farming and mushroom-growing journey, where we work with the natural landscape to grow food sustainably.

Can this be done on the ground and not in a container?
Do these grow good with shaded areas? I have a large area in my garden that gets only very early morning sun , was going to try and grow some seasoning herbs and mushrooms in that space
