It all started to change in the 19th century with a movement called the Risorgimento, or “the Resurgence.” Led by passionate figures like Giuseppe Garibaldi, the dream of a united Italy began to take shape. After decades of political maneuvering and battles, the Kingdom of Italy was finally proclaimed in 1861.
