I arrive in Bologna with no plan, very little sleep, and just enough energy to wing the entire day. From disappointing train stations and spontaneous wine stops to hidden canals, medieval towers, bizarre local legends, and some genuinely incredible food, this turns into a surprisingly rich and chaotic wander through one of Italy’s most underrated cities. With zero research (and maybe one glass of wine too many), I stumble across leaning towers, secret history, ancient churches, and the real soul of Bologna – unpolished, unpretentious, and quietly brilliant.

  1. I’m loving the comments almost as much as the video. Your comment about being a proud Brit, but admitting that the continent does things better, struck a chord. When I visited Lake Como, I was impressed with some table parasols at one cafe. “They even have more elegant umbrellas,” I thought to myself.

  2. The other thing about your recent videos that I’m enjoying, is thinking to myself, “Why am I suffering through a particularly wet, unpleasant British winter, when I could be exploring better climates?” Big excuse is that I own two dogs, so maybe I’ll spend this year planning a multi-country trip of a lifetime for 2026/2027 winter, taking my buddies with me. Thanks for the inspiration.

  3. Trying to describe elipsicum after a few red wines made me laugh so much. Also a tall monument in Rotherham really had me!😂

  5. Went to Bologna with my son to do a pilgrimage to the imola race circuit and its pretty town, fell in love with the laid back vibe of the city and fantastic food, definitely worth going in the spring, its a whole different place. Great Vlog again mate keep up the great work.

  6. i really enjoy this video! it was a good trip. i always take my cap of in church, because im christian or that's just me, but honestly i dont care if other people do it or don't that's their business. people commenting and complaining are just trolls with too much time on their hands

  7. One of your best videos. Got funnier the more red wine you had. Stop saying your videos are rubbish. NOT true! Made me want to go back to Italy after watching this. Looking forward to your next stop in Italy. Keep enjoying that red wine!

  8. Spaghetti bolognaise, ha ha don’t say that in Bologna 😂😂, we prefer Bologna to Florence , the food there is amazing , best in Italy 😋

  9. There are many more towers in San Gimignano , Tuscany , and yes the rich built them higher than their neighbours to show off, another great vlog, made me chuckle a few times, Italy is our favourite country ❤

  10. Informative and hilarious James, when you whipped out your Nuss Knacker we were in stitches. We love Italy although it does help when you have a Italian father in law 👍

  11. My Mrs said 10 seconds before you did . “ this could be tapas alley in Benidorm “ 😂😂. Great video , keep up the good work. See thee .

  12. 510 comments…blimey!
Ive been doing a deep-dive on Yorkshire today…cities…areas…dialects…etc
It really IS a fascinating area ☺️
My family descends from Yorkshire folk.
My surname ("Bland") …is an old Norse name (originally "Blanna"…means "Man without breeches" 😳😂), and there are more of them in Yorkshire than anywhere else in the world.
Another very enjoyable video James. ☺️

  13. Enjoyed the vid, cheers! Did really like Bologna when I went a few years ago, although admittedly just went there to get to San Marino. Looking forward to the next one in this series.

  14. I agree with you about Garibaldi biscuits but, sorry, really like Digestives. My husband will not eat anything with raisins because they remind him of dead flies.
