We had a blast listening to a few famous Italian songs from the past and reacting to a few of today’s most popular hits! Music has been a fun way our family has been learning Italian and connecting with the culture. Which other songs should we listen to?
In the second half of the video, we try some new local wines for the first time and give some of our thoughts!

I'm sorry to tell you this, but the songs you've been listening to are the ones every Italian is ashamed of when they hear foreigners listening to them—they're basically musical trash. Valuable Italian music is something else entirely.
That glass is right for white and rosè wine. Red wine needs the bigger and larger one.
Prosecco needs the slim tall one as spumante
From what you say, you might like Italian singer-songwriters from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Battisti, Cocciante, De Gregori, Battiato, some of Vasco Rossi's songs, and Ligabue's rock ballads.
"I bambini fanno oh" di Povia una delle mie canzoni preferiti e i bambini la amano!!
Can i suggest another video like that?
You can try gianna nannini, jovanotti, laura pausini, marco mengoni, tiziano ferro,
Guys, you absolutely have to follow the Sanremo Music Festival, from February 24 to 28. Italy basically comes to a standstill for Sanremo: it creates music, shows, gossip, and controversy. It’s the most important event in Italy. During that week, everyone talks about Sanremo. People jokingly call it “Holy Week.” You really can’t miss it on TV if you want to dive into Italian musical culture.
Congratulations!!! You are becoming real Italians!!!!
Mi piacerebbe sentirvi parlare più spesso in italiano.
È fastidioso che fermate continuamente la musica
Ma che musica ascoltate?
That was enjoyable to watch. So true italians love their music and no doubt you'll find out more about the Italian Song Festival di Sanremo which will be broadcast in February. I really enjoy listening to Ex Otago they're an Indie band from Genova they have unique music and sing about life in a clever way. I also like the soft melody of Zero Assoluto a band from Rome. Buon Ascolto!
Wine tips for beginners
Don´t smell Wine out of the bottle, that says nothing about the wine…
The wine aroma solely unfolds through airflow -> in the "wine lingo" it is called "the wine has to breath" -> therefore you have to pour it out into a glass in order to smell the actual wine aroma.
"Breathing" is that important that
High class wine got even poured out – very very slowly – entirely out of the bottle into a socalled "decanter" (= a glas vessel looking like a carafe but with a very extra wide belly at the bottom) so that the wine can "breath" during pouring and then additionally in the decanter for round 15 till even round 30 minutes (the duration depends on the actual wine type and even more so on the age of the wine) before it got poured into a glas for drinking.
Glasses
White wine glasses are a little narrower than Red wine glasses – you definitively got Red Wine glasses.
Temperature
The optimal avarage temperature for White wines is round 10-12 degree Celsius = that is the upper end for aromatic younger white wines (= 8-10 degree optimal drinking temperature) and the lower end for very dry wines with full-bodies (= 12-14 degree optimal drinking temperature)
The optimal drinking temperature for Red wines is round 15-18 degrees for full-body Red wines, that is for 90% of all Red wines the optimal temperature,
But
some young Red wines are drunken as like as young White wines at 10-12 degrees
Sparkling wine + Champagne has to be drunken cold at 6-8 degrees.
It's only my opinion but the oldies are the best. I am Italian and I know nothing about the latest songs, they are "cheap" and unoriginal (they copycat the global trends like of Pop, Trap, Rap, new R&B. I wonder if they use the Autotune), I never listen to them.
In other comments you got some famous names of easy listening music, I can add some context. Battisti, Dalla, Venditi, De Gregori, Battiato ecc… are folk pop rock with strong authorial taste. Vasco Rossi is rock with more international taste, Zucchero is soul/blues (he is influenced by the old South USA), Mina is pop/jazz/swing and she has a fabulous voice. I would add Marcella Bella of Matia Bazar (when she was young), listen to "Ti sento" or "Montagne Verdi", "Io domani", very emotional melodies, pure voice. Mina and Marcella are still active. Marcella decided to do the modern crappy music. Mina is more consistent with her style and she is a bit better.
I 💙 this video…
I liked most of the songs
and I loved your singing and reactions
💙💙💙💙
This unlocks so many memories of driving in the summer, on vacation, belting out Italopop sogs 🙂
Hi Tanner and Risa, even though you haven't responded to my letter, you're still my favorite family on YouTube. Don't worry, I wasn't offended; you must have a lot of people bothering you, and you can't pay attention to all of us. I'll happily continue watching. Best wishes to you all.
2:49 Hi, italian here. I think you've confused the word "partigiano (partisan)" with "Parmigiano (Parmesan)". The song refers to Sandro Pertini, who was President of the Republic during the years this song was written. Pertini was an opponent of the Fascist regime and was imprisoned in 1929. Released in 1943 with the fall of Fascism, he joined the Resistance and fought alongside the Allies against the Republic of Salò (a state established by the Fascists in northern Italy after 1943). To be clear: the song is a list of stereotypes about Italians, some true, some greatly exaggerated, with the singer proclaiming "Sono un Italiano vero (I'm a true Italian)" and the reference to Pertini being just one line among others, "un partigiano come Presidente (a partisan as President)".
My suggestions here are Lucio Battisti, Lucio Dalla and Franci Battiato. Ciao.
If you want to listen to good Italian music, you almost always have to not go beyond the 2010s. After that it becomes too commercial.
Azzurro must be Song from Celentano only.
The girl singing Felicità Is Tyron Power s daughter. She isnt a girl anymore.
maaaaaa why you are listening only covers 🙁
Listen the originals!
l'italiano is my personal italian all time favorite. 🥰
The Version of azzurro you guys listened to was strange. You should listen to the original by Adriano Celentano from 1968. It.became so popular, that it now has the status of an unofficial "national Anthem". The songs you played were basically the Soundtrack of my childhood having spend most summers in Italy.
Maneskim?
Pls Listen to "Caruso" by Lucio Dalla. It's an older Italien song and a bit dramatic, but I still love it. There's also another version of Caruso by Dalla with Luciano Pavarotti.
Some informations. (excuse my english)
La Quadriglia – Folklore song
La prima cosa bella – Singer: Nicola di Bari (nickname or stage name). 70' song, Romantic song, as many italian songs of the 70' and so
L'Italiano – Singer: Toto Cotugno. This song has been translated in many languages, but with change. For example: not 'Sono italiano', but 'I'm Korean', 'I'm Chinese', etc
Sarà perché ti amo – Band: Ricchi e Poveri. We say this is a 'musica leggera', attempt to eng translate 'light music'
Azzurro (not Azzuro, double both 'z' and 'r') – Singer: Adriano Celentano. In this clip the singer is not the original. I dont like this version.
Felicità – Singers: Al Bano e Romina Power. Romina is the daughter of US actor Tyrone Power
Ti amo – Singer: Umberto Tozzi. This song is famous also for the obsessive repeat of 'Ti amo' ('I love you'). Soft beginning, loud ending.
Vivo per lei – Singer Andrea Bocelli feat Giorgia. Bocelli is well known. Giorgia is one the top italian singers of all time, not all other female singers (in the world) risk to singing her songs.
Fuoco nel fuoco – Eros Ramazzotti. Check his performance with the great Tina (another song).
Of course Abba is swedish band
Italian music, as other country music, are always evolving, and there are many types.
Compliments for your couple and your children.
Ascoltaa vasco rossi (cè chi dice no) Modena Parc😊
I missed Gianna Nannini 🙂
