San Filippo is a fan favorite, and we are excited to bring you their 2013 Brunello di Montalcino.
A perfect growing season with a perfect harvest is the definition of the 2013 vintage. One of the best vintages in the last 20 years, and with all the excitement that we are reading about when it comes to the 2015 vintage, you will want to stock up on these as it will take a few years before the 2015s will be ready to drink.
The wine is classic Brunello. Full bodied with big fruit notes upfront, lots of leather, dark chocolate and earth on the mid palate and finish. The wine spends about two and a half years in oak, so there are notes of spice and toasted vanilla as well. The wine has plenty of acidity and tannin, naturally from the Sangiovese grape.
While this wine will age well over the next ten years or so, don’t be afraid to open it now. The 2013s are really starting to settle in!
