This Italian region gave us parmesan cheese, Ferrari supercars, and the films of Federico Fellini. Emilia-Romagna is a 2,200-year-old region, and now its food has landed in East London just off Columbia Road. I must admit to being sceptical about the menu. It’s contemporary and precise, yes, but I felt I’d seen everything before.
But my scepticism was misplaced. The food doesn’t shout, and it doesn’t need to. Flavours come together harmoniously, the service is chatty and characterful, and the room is restrained but confident. I went from doubt to immediate praise. When you hear the praise of Dara and Tiella, believe it, then walk through the stained-glass door curious and let her cooking do the rest.

I’m a former restaurateur now writing about food and culture in London. I cover everything from openings to closures, and our local food history. My writing often looks at how what we eat reveals the values of our shared home.
Twice each week I publish short pieces blending restaurant reviews with social history and personal experience, exploring how food connects people to place. If that sounds like your kind of thing, you can find all my latest pieces on Substack.
