About us 👫:

We’re Sam and Chris, a wife-and-husband duo who traded our RV life in the U.S. for a new adventure as American expats in Italy. 🌍 🇮🇹

In 2018, we launched our blog, Boozing Abroad, to help travelers find the best local bars, breweries, wineries, and distilleries while exploring new places.

In 2023, we documented our cross-country road trip from Phoenix to Alaska (and back to Virginia!) on this channel.

But in 2024, we started a new chapter as expats living in Italy, diving into Italian culture, everyday life abroad, and the joys (and challenges) of moving to Italy as Americans.

Join us as we explore Italy, uncover hidden gems, and share tips for living abroad, and more. Whether you’re curious about expat life in Italy or looking for travel inspiration, we’re here to share our world with you!

  1. Great video guys. I was at Oktoberfest in 2014 and had a blast. Of the fest beers, my favourite was probably Augustinier, I loved seeing it poured from a wooden barrel and it felt overall more 'authentic' for me. Quick tip: If you go, put a tracker in your tent to avoid getting lost for hours on end.

  2. Whoever suggested you to hit all of the six sisters is a genius!

And, totally love how I can determine how much is Sam drunk just by her stare! Pretzels obv point of no return!

  3. Such a pleasure to watch! You two do such a great job presenting the location, the drinks, and (my fave) the history or background. We are totally inspired to try this beer journey when we get to Germany.

  4. Noone calls them the "the six sisters". Possibliy, "The Big Six", also very uncommon. Most locals will rely on Augustiner anyways. Source: Born and living in Munich for 47 years.

  5. Great video! Every time I go home to Milwaukee, there are always a couple of nights at the Old German Beer Hall. Prost!

  6. I’m jealous! What a great challenge. I also tend to like Weissbier and stout along with Doppelbock. But I do love a good Helles, Märzen, or Dunkel. I’ve never had Augustiner Dunkel. Their Helles and Edelstoff are fantastic! I’ve always passed over Löwenbräu, but your description makes me interested. Prost!

  7. Munich is the right city to go if you like beer and Munich is also the right city to go if you are interested to know the history of BMW❤

  8. Why only tring known beer? Schneider, in Tal, Weißbeer aould be my choice. But im from Munich………

  9. You have chosen the right "Wirtshäuser" for your Tour de Beer in Munich. But there are of course plenty of others that I could recommend. And while most people prefer Augustiner my number one is Hofbräu. Prost.

  10. Good backround infos.
BUT: Brezn (prezels) are not ment to be soft. They have to be crispy.
AND: Butter without any addition is normal butter.

    Greets from Bavaria

  11. Nice video!
Especially the anecdote with Paulaner vs the Pope which is not really known even in Germany. Nevertheless the color of the beer in the illustration video should actually be brown, as the yellow colored beer known today (Helles) was only introduced in 1894 in Bavaria by Spaten and it didn't really catch on for years.

Fresh Bavarian pretzels are hard on the outside, I dont even like the soft ones.
The soft cheese is called obazda, and it was originally actually a recycled product, from the cheeses and ingredients found in the kitchen/pantry.

Fun fact, beer was officially allowed only as late as 1880 (before that beer was sold at smaller stands) , and the beer tents were only introduced afterwards, the first Märzen beer specially for the Oktoberfest brewed by Spaten in 1872.
Only Hacker Pschorr served the Oktoberfest Märzen until 2 years ago, but  sadly they discontinued it and with that, the official Oktoberfest Märzen is now history. It was considerably darker as the helles.

In 'Helles' you must pronounce both e's, not "hells" which is a biker group (angels 😉). Märzen is pronounced as "mertsen"

  12. While I appreciate some of the descriptions of both beer and brewery, only Americans would think that 6 breweries is a challenge.
