Domino’s failed so badly in the Italian market that, out of 880 planned stores, only 29 ever opened, and all of them shut down after the franchise operator went bankrupt in the country. This happened because, although the company saw some early success with its first locations, more Italian pizzerias started using delivery apps during COVID. Domino’s couldn’t compete with the sheer number of local pizzerias, and the operator eventually went bankrupt.
