Thanks for watching the video WHAT I BOUGHT AT AN ITALIAN VEGETABLE MARKET & SUPERMARKET
40 Comments
I enjoy shopping for the week with you. I just went yesterday and realize how lucky I am to live in a town and area of California where there are many open air vegetable and fruit markets.
Good deal on the groceries,I guarantee here in the US you'd pay double that
I converted and your 30 euros of fruit and veggies would be $48 ish CDN $ bet yours tastes much better too ❤❤❤
Where can I get one of those bottomless Mary Poppins bags…so I can just keep unpacking an impossible amount of delicious fresh produce? Impressive.
Loved the video Nicky ❤❤❤❤❤ ALL. Of your video’s
I love it when you show us what you bought at the market & shops. It is one of my favorite things to do when I'm in a new country is to go to the markets & shops to see what nice & different goodies they have.
Your fruit & veggies look big, fresh & 30 Eu for a bag full of pruduce is a good price imo. I lived in Germany for 6 years until last year so I know what 30 Eu is worth. I found the veggies in the supermarkets in Germany tired looking & expensive.
They do have markets & farmers markets. But that was far from me.
Alot is imported in Germany & goes off quickly. Not the biggest or best looking selection.
So I bought a food dehydrator.
I literally sliced bunches of bananas into rings, put them on the racks to dry, and had lovely bananas to put into cereals & yogurt. I did that with most of my fruit. I love snacking on dried banana rings.
I noticed alot of bananas were imported in Germany which means they travelled far, looked ok in the supermarket, then went black after a few days at home.
You have a food dehydrator Nicki.
You can dry apples, mangos, herbs, some veggies, etc, etc, etc.
Then you can keep the dried goods in jars for those times when you don't have fresh fruit, etc.
For some odd reason I don't like apples, only Golden Delicious apples on the odd occassion.
But I found I did like dried apple to snack on. Weird.
Sadly, my partner passed away in Germany, & now I am back in my home country in South Africa. The climate is good for growing grapes, fruits & vegetables.
I am also Italian. So things like parmesan cheese & parma ham or Pannetone cost a fortune here.
Because of the climate in South Africa the farmers grow top quality fruits which are exported. We as the public don't see the A Grade produce in a general supermarkets.
I would say Woolworths stocks A Grade produce at a high price. Woolworths has become a very expensive store.
They sell clothes, shoes, homeware and food.
It was like Marks & Spencers to give you an idea.
Fruit & veggies also look tired in our general supermarkets.
And tomatoes are tasteless.
I find the fruit & veg quality has deminished comared to years ago when green grocer shops still sold fresh fruit & veg.
All the huge supermarkets put the mom & pop shops out of business.
I like that about Italy.
You still have markets & those little family owned shops.
I hope you enjoy Tuscany, good to see you back on level ground, lol.
I'm holding thumbs that Carlo finds the right digger to help him keep all the land under control. He deserves it. Manual labour is difficult.
Take care and see you both next week. 🤗💝
Thanks for sharing another great video 📹 With Food to me you did very good with your fruits and your vegetables at the Market and the Food looks Delicious 😋 Enjoy see you all on Sunday ❤❤
In Seattle that would easily cost me over $100 maybe over $150.
Store your potatoes in paper bags put them in a dark space and they will last for weeks
Great bag of goodies for €30 😊
Love your channel for many reasons, but one which may or not come as a surprise is that I have a not so secret crush on Carlo and my partner on Nikki, you're both lovely, attractive people. 😅
Always great and interesting vlogs👍🤗 Pad Thai 😋
Much cheaper in Italy than in Australia
30 euros for all those veggies and fruit is a great deal! Would have paid a lot more in the supermarket!
Food is very good value. Thanks for lovely video ☘️
That's $52 Australian Dollars. Exceptional value for what you bought and the fact that it's Farm Fresh! Wow! Great quality at a great price!! 🥦🍅🍎🥔🍆🍊🍌
Nicki, I have a great tip for you and your viewers……cut up the bread in the sizes you need while it's still fresh. Then, cut in half lengthways as if you are making a sandwich. Freeze or refrigerate any leftover cut bread. Then, when you want more, wrap the pieces in baking paper and place in a metal colander over a pot of boiling water covered with a lid to steam. After about 10 to 15 minutes of boiling steam the bread should be soft and ready to enjoy again with slathers of butter 🧈 or cheese 🧀 and a beautiful Basil Pesto or just dipped in delicious sticky Balsamic Vinegar and Premium Olive Oil from your region or your very own pressed Olio. Pour some Balsamic inside a small dish of Peppery Olive Oil and start dipping! I use this method for frozen muffins, sourdough bread or fruit cakes, buns – anything I want warm, soft and brought back to life! Try it. I think you and Carlo will enjoy this! Great with Soup, Spreads, Dips, Jam, Cheese, etc. Croutons is the other option for a Ceasar Salad. 🥗
Good morning, Your food shop is a good evidence of the healthy lifestyle you choose. Not much sugar @ all.You were able to display it all on that wonderful large multipurpose island in your terrific kitchen area. What more do you need ?
I enjoyed your grocery haul! Your produce looks amazingly fresh. Now, I’m going to find some inspiration from your video and make a fresh meal for lunch!
In US all those vegetables would cause us over $100
Those two broccoli alone would be roughly $10 here in NYC – I know our economics are very different as to income, prices for housing, etc but when it comes to food, some of the greed by certain vendors has been really obscene; I figured out, over the course of about 4 weeks, where I can buy my groceries (same brands, quality, etc) for roughly 30 to 35% less than I was paying at the one place I'd been buying from for many years (I live in NYC) – took some time, comparing of quality, etc but when a bag of vegetables the size you just emptied would usually cost me around $100 – 2 leeks are $8 to $10 …. And, yours looks so fresh!
Loved this video ,very. Interesting.
Lovely to see what you can get for € 110. It also depends on what supermarket you go to.
Have a good week!❤️❤️❤️🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱
Sure wish we could’ve seen the supermarket 😮
great, really helpful to know. Well done as always
❤
A neighbour of mine always called those bagets "husband beaters". Mine never last long enough to get stale. Good haul of fruit and veg Nicky locally grown from market.
Always my favorite in your videos…
And pantry show case too 😅
nice job! The bread looked good.
Aubergines! You sound like an American! (Me).
Where are the blueberries grown?
Carlo, your land is steep. Please don't buy a digger that might tip over. My brother was killed by a tractor flipping over. Don't let that happen, please.
Hi Nicki. Love love love your Tuscan Kitchen. So cozy. Fran❤
Hi. It is not always rainbows and butterflies that stirs our interests. The day-to-day reality of living creates a sense of belonging and family. Thank you for allowing us this great privilege!
So here in the US 😂hat you paid for all of these beautiful groceries would cost close to $300 US. Grocery prices here are out of control. We love going grocery shopping in Umbria when we are at our house. So much more affordable. Great video❤😊
Goodness me! Almost nothing in season? Terrible representation of the abundance of winter crops in Italy.
Good video! Thank you for sharing!
I’ve been addicted to golden kiwi this past year they are so good.
Everything looks fresh and healthy, yum!😊
I loved this vlog. It’s interesting to see what others buy ands cook. I really love the vlogs from Tuscany. Life seems so much simpler than going up and down hundreds of steps all the time.❤
Yea! Nicki, you know we love grocery hauls and comparing prices! This was a fun one for me. 🙂
Nicki, the vegetables you purchased at the vegetable market would cost between $40-$50 at a farm market here in California, USA. However, the food from the supermarket may be a little bit less expensive here. I'm not sure because some of the things you purchased I rarely buy. Thank you for this video. It is always interesting to know about the daily life of those who live in other countries.
