Brunello di Montalcinos are normally long-lived wines but the ideal drinking window for this vintage of this wine – given by one of the critics was 2004-2018. Perhaps this is symptomatic of the way people have underestimated this vintage as the wine, though fully mature is not in decline yet, in fact it defied my attempts to write it off by having a surprisingly enduring nature to its finish.
Tenuta La Poderina is a prestigious estate whivh is one of several belonging to the larger Italian Tenute del Cerro wine group. Tenute del Cerro, which is owned by and acts as the wine division of Gruppo Unipol, a major European insurance company.
Tenuta La Poderina is located just south of Montalcino in Castelnuovo dell ‘Abate, an area renowned for producing elegant and balanced wines. About a third of the estate’s vineyards are dedicated to the cultivation of the Sangiovese Grosso for the production of this Brunello and ‘Poggio Abate’ Brunello di Montalcino Riserva. La Poderina also produces Rosso di Montalcino DOC and Moscadello di Montalcino DOC.
