Jeju Island is home to some of the freshest Korean seafood and today we’ll be finding some of the best seafood dishes, including one type of seafood I just can’t fully enjoy!

Okdom Sikdang (옥돔식당), Moseulpo, Jeju Island (https://maps.app.goo.gl/tJQhPS6L4kmx1BVq9) – And the dish you have to come here to eat is Sea Snail Knife-cut Noodles (Bomal Kalguksu / 보말칼국수). Price – 12,000 KRW ($8.24) per bowl

Miyeongine Sikdang (미영이네식당), Moseulpo, Jeju Island (https://maps.app.goo.gl/GjZ6Peb9H5zvzPzd9) – For our next meal we’re eating Raw Mackerel (Godeungeo Hoe / 고등어회), but the Korean way includes so many sides and extras. Price – 72,000 KRW ($49.45) total

Haenyeo Divers Shack (사계해녀의집), Andeok-myeon, Jeju Island (https://maps.app.goo.gl/FJQ2gxBiNCYwSo7DA) – Jeju Island is home to the unique Haenyeo women divers and at this seafood shack on the ocean I tried sea squirts again and brown turban shells. Price – 20,000 KRW ($13.74)

Go Halmang-ne (고할망네), Andeok-myeon, Jeju Island (https://maps.app.goo.gl/2RaJoCosQfzQfxEX9) – Continuing with our Korean seafood tour in Jeju I had to try my favorite Korean food of all time Spicy Braised Hairtail Fish (Galchi Jorim / 갈치조림). Price – 46,000 KRW ($31.59) total

Jungmun Saekdal (중문색달통갈치 본점), Saekdal-dong, Jeju Island (https://maps.app.goo.gl/5kHJoEviVR6VtJV48) – You can’t visit Jeju Island without trying one of the centerpiece dishes of Jeju – the grilled whole cutlassfish or hairtail. Grilled Hairtial Fish (Galchi Gui / 갈치구이). Price – 75,000 KRW ($51.51) total

Jeju has an amazing Korean food culture and the seafood is fantastic.

  1. 1:59 You’re correct, they add the abalone innards to add that certain abalone seafoody flavor to the soup. Looks absolutely delicious.

  2. Sea squirt, aka sea pineapple, has such a unique taste, some might call it "chemical," such that there are a lot of people in Korean even, who can't take it. But like a number of dishes in Korea, it takes maybe fourth, fifth try and then you begin to think, "Oh, I get it now." I'm a Korean myself and no, I have yet to ever say, "I want some sea squirt" in my life. To each his own.

  3. Last time I checked it was thought that something similar to Sea Squirts evolved into everything with a backbone. Fish, frogs, birds, people, wombats.

  4. 갈치조림을 저렇게 좋아하는 걸 보니 어쩔 수 없는 아저씨 입맛…

  5. Mark, you really enjoy braised and grilled hairtail. Mark, who enjoys it even more than Koreans, is truly a true food critic. And you've done a fantastic job introducing Jeju Island's best restaurants. How do you know so much about them and enjoy them so well? Amazing.

  6. It's hilariously entertaining watching Mark eat. Food can be lava hot and Mark can still eat it straight out of the burner without cooling down. Bet ya if Mark drank lava itself, it'll be nothing to him😆

    Gotta love Mark!

  7. FABULOUS! Just back from a week's holiday Mark (sadly not to Jeju) so I'm binge watching. Gotta catch up!

  8. You know how to deal with GalChiJoRim(hair tail) wow… it's around 11 pm but I am having Ramyeon because of you!!!!

  9. That chilli will
Clean Mark out & keep him free from bacteria….
Not to mention the fire is worth it. LOVE THE HEAT…..Can't be BEAT…..❤

  10. Love Korean food been many times with that said I don’t like picking thru to find bones in food ruins the experience and enjoyment of it

  11. Mark, have you tried large succulent octopus (moon uh 문어)? It's very different from the smaller ones. One of my favorite all time Korean dishes is 문어숙회 moon uh sook hwe. It's a must get in Korea if you like seafood.
