F is for Fiano 🍋🍯
One of Italy’s most age-worthy white grapes — and a serious sleeper hit.

Fiano comes from Campania, especially around Avellino, where volcanic soils and mountain elevations give the wine depth, tension, and texture. It’s been grown here since Roman times, and some historians believe its name comes from apianis — because bees were obsessed with its sweet, aromatic grapes 🐝.

What makes Fiano special?
• Naturally low yields → more concentration
• A signature waxy, almost oily texture
• Incredible aging potential (10+ years in top examples)
• Aromatics that evolve from citrus and pear → honey, hazelnut, and spice

In this short, I break down:
• What Fiano is
• Why sommeliers love it
• What it tastes like
• Why it’s a real upgrade from Pinot Grigio

If you like Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, or whites with structure and soul, Fiano should absolutely be on your radar.
