I use this wine key: Forge de Laguiole Ebony
The 100 Point Scoring System (from www.robertparker.com):
96-100: An extraordinary wine of profound and complex character displaying all the attributes expected of a classic wine of its variety. Wines of this caliber are worth a special effort to find, purchase and consume.
90 – 95: An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. In short, these are terrific wines.
80 – 89: A barely above average to very good wine displaying various degrees of finesse and flavor as well as character with no noticeable flaws.
70 – 79: An average wine with little distinction except that it is soundly made. In essence, a straightforward, innocuous wine.
60 – 69: A below-average wine containing noticeable deficiencies, such as excessive acidity and/or tannin, an absence of flavor or possibly dirty aromas or flavors.
50 – 59: A wine deemed to be unacceptable.
No time matters more for food and wine pairing than Christmas.
Over the holidays, friends and family gather around the table—and let’s be honest, this is not the moment you want people side-eyeing your wine choices.
That’s why today I’m doing a deep dive into the best wines to pair with Christmas turkey.
I’ll be tasting seven different wines with Christmas turkey, evaluating each to see how well they complements the meal. Which wine will be the ultimate winner—and which ones should you definitely avoid?
I personally think wine pairings are often pretty boring. Sommeliers and wine lovers tend to play it safe. No one would have guessed that an intense, salty, savory blue cheese like Stilton could pair beautifully with a sweet, fortified red wine like vintage Port. But someone tried it, was blown away—and now it’s a classic pairing. That’s exactly what we’re doing today.
I’ll be testing some safe, traditional choices, alongside a few wines that are a little more… out there—all with Christmas turkey. Let’s see what really works.

I lean towards a bigger more structured Gamay, like a Cote du Py Morgon …
Had a magnum of Domaine des Sénéchaux Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2011 and it couldnt have been better, lots of primary, secondary, and tertiary characters, stood up and beside everything on the plate, was stunning!
How come your cellar looks like a dungeon?
The best wine channel on YouTube. Love the videos and as a wine collector I love learning.
The gesticulating with the knife and carving fork almost sent me over the edge. Put the pointy things down!
51 seconds in and I'm drooling.
Merry Christmas, Konstantin! I will probably pair my Christmas turkey with Chianti, since that is always on my table, lol! But I will def look for that Chateauneuf.
My go to for turkey and sides is Beaujolais – specifically Lapierre Morgon. I also eat smoked turkey though.
What a fun video! My father-in-law always makes his own cranberry sauce with Pinot Noir for Thanksgiving, so the wine pairing is easy at our house. We polish off what’s left of the first bottle and crack open a second!
Have you considered a sparkling Shiraz?
UK Christmas it’s Turkey+ stuffing roast potatoes sprouts carrots & gravy. Will take a Chateu Neuf dp to my daughters this year thank you Konstantin and Merry Christmas !
My family enjoys wine. My Thanksgiving table had bottles of Sparkling Shiraz, Champagne, Vinho Verde (low-acidity), and any red that is not over-oaked.
Alcohol is bad for you people. Wine or whiskey or beer. It is shortens your life.
Christmas Day and the turkey still isn't prepared !! The wine is totally gone as well as am I 😄🇨🇦
Good vid. Only addition to the lineup that I would make is a good Barbera, I think. But you did already have a Chianti in there, so I won't whine (or "wine" 😂) too much. Sorry got a meet my dad joke quota before the year's over.
Articulate and entertaining. Fun too!
I'd love to see you do more food and wine pairings. I think it is something many would be interested in.
for new year, can you make a beginner guide on what should we expect to taste and how to taste and how to define good and bad.
My go-to was always a nice, rich Meursault or Puligny, but with the prices these days I head to Rully or St. Aubin, or Olivier Leflaive's Bourgogne Le Setilles.

Red Rioja is my go to wine for a traditional Thanksgiving or Christmas meal in The United States. We have the additional complication of candied yams (sans marshmallows) with their sweetness and the cinnamon, but the Rioja still works well. It would be interesting to see how a bold spicy Zin from Dry Creek Valley would work. Also, thanks for the info on the CDP pairing. I would not have predicted such success.
We're on traditional free range Yorkshire goose for our meal, with pork and chestnut stuffing, red cabbage, roast potatoes, sprouts and French beans. I've turned the giblets into a port wine gravy and the drinkers amongst the guests are having Saumur-Champigny and Chinon. Domaine Ratron and Noblaie, both 2018s.
Merry Christmas everyone 🎉
I am just a fan who wanted to ask about the red wine you make 4 years ago and what was the outcome
Love these insights, but why not a high quality dry Blaufränkisch rosé, Sangiovese rosato, or even an orange wine? I guess I'm saying if you've got that many reds out already, why not a rosé/skin contact wine? Barreled or whatnot.
Brilliant, Wine and Brussels Sprouts being paired. Who would have guessed. Merry Christmas to All.
Thanks for the recommendation, Konstantin. We went CNDP for our Christmas dinner in the UK, but we went for Chateau de Nalys 2019 by Guigal….stunning
Mr. Baum I wish you a very happy holiday season. You are the best…
