Great friends visit me in Italy for a long weekend to help on my house renovation. With so many jobs to choose from, they chose to tackle what I consider to be the hardest job of all – natural stone wall render. Rendering and learning to render takes time but Steph took to it like an expert. The cement mix is complex for beginners to master, but Simon did just that. Trial and error always works so as we progress through the day the mix gets better and the bond of the stones to the original wall gets stronger. It looks fantastic!

With the extra hands I tackle a few heavy lifting tasks as and we set out the water supply for the outside summer kitchen. Also, the field gets a tidy up and tiling which sets me up nicely to plant loads of olive trees in the coming weeks.

The weather in Le Marche for November was beautiful.

This was a tough one to record with is much going on and only one decent microphone to capture the story. I hope you enjoy this one and, like me, appreciate the effort and support that Simon & Stephanie have given me. Their trip gave me a boost and lift in spirits. The house looks and feels different because of their help. Thanks guys! I owe you the same favour when your house is being built.

Thanks all, as always for watching and supporting this channel.

Email me or DM me with any questions. I will be able to book video calls again early in the new year.
Saluti !
Richard.

  1. Sorry mate, I always watch and love your channel but the stone cladding is awful and not a good idea, it will take forever, the woman will not get much done and you will be left with another huge job to do.
Just paint the house with quality masonry paint.

  2. If we don’t make mistakes we don’t learn. That’s all part of the journey. All you lot in the peanut gallery, “be nice”. 😊

  3. Wow. Well I think the stone looks great, and knowing the climate plus being a fairly sheltered spot I think a lot of the fears may be unfounded.

But even if not, the sky’s hardly going to fall in.

And your friends were legends, great teamwork!

When you come to the next section, and if you want lime, it’s called Calce Idrata, it’s cheap as chips, I paid €4 for a 25kg bag last month. I use it to paint my thick stone walls for max vapour permeability.

  4. How wonderful to have friends come help you
What a beautiful look to house with stones
Glad Dennis came to help you
Merry Christmas to you and your family 🌲🎅🎄🤶
    Prayers for safe travels 🙏🙏🙏
See you in the next video ❤❤❤❤

  5. builders sand, aka soft sand, red sand … for mortar.. its water absorbent so mixes easily, needs a plastisizer – add a squeeze of washing up liquid, does the job and cheap. Point with the sharp sand … but… you can use sharp sand its more like concrete than mortar that's the difference … again add a plastisizer makes it easier to work with

  6. Looking good, will you put a few wall ties to give the cladding support as you go up further. Is it worth dampening the wall to "catch" the mortar a bit better.

  7. There’s a guy who has a Youtube channel called Operation Sicily. He was or is a builder so I suggest that you message him about the different mix ratios required for your mortar and concrete. He’s doing a fantastic job of renovating a villa. Not in as nice a spot as your place though. I so look forward to your videos and witnessing the progression. Keep up the awesome work.

  8. Loved the video and loved the wall, if it doesn’t work then it’s a lesson learnt and nothing else. Every time I watch and see the view of the rolling hills, I think that the house is just a shelter to enjoy the outdoors. Cold and wet in the uk so what a place to be to be in the winter! Looking forward to the next one, always makes my day to watch them
